Howdy 1911dude!
I have an EAA in .45lc/nickle..it's good for the money thuogh it did need some gunsmithing... the bore leaded up quikly and the loading gate needed to be tightened and the ejetor housing lock tighted in to place.
But hot tamalis was that gun is accurate! It will hit downed bowling pins at 50 yards! My gun was an early production piece as well so MAYBEE they got the bugs out. It happens to be made in Germany by wienrach and has all those neat Nitro-proof-marks. Best of all I paid only bout' 289 total for it...
If you are hesitant about this gun there is the Ruger Vaqurio (spelling?)... I dont like the grip but it is solid and can be had in stainless this is a more expensive option however it is well within your price range..
YES the .45 colt round is a excellent man stopper! If I remember correctly according to the fishy but oft qouted satistics on "stopping power" the figure of 78% one stop shot with a regular lead bullet. So both the "Magic bullet crowd" and skeptics all agree on this calbers proven track record!!
Lead bullets in genral are almost as good as hollow points...if they hit a rib cage bone ( or any other bone) it will flatten out... even in soft tissue there will be some growth in diamiter.I like the super X by winchester, skip the "cowboy" loads the kick is mild any how. For those poor folks in New jailsy this is a good option...
I myself can have access to any thing and am about to pick up a nice new Ruger Redhawk in .45lc...I want a bigger carry gun than a 9mm if the threat level demands! ( Not that I'm downing that sweet little round.)
Peace
IZZY
