Good bore guide BESIDES Lucas?

I need a bore guide for a 30-06. I contacted Lucas and they said they aren't taking orders until March.

Who else makes a good bore guide?

Bore Tech?

Possum Hollow?

Dewey?

Tipton?

Which one would you get?
 
I've got a Dewey for my Mini-14 and a possum hollow type for my Mausers. Both types work well. The Dewey is actually designed to protect the muzzle since the Mini needs to be cleaned that way. The other one I've had for years and I think is actually branded MidwayUSA. Nice tight fit in the action and the O rings keep the solvent from running out of the chamber.

The Pro-Shot does not have the end sized with a small bushing with a hole diameter to match the diameter of the cleaning rod like the Lucas or Jones...

These keep the rod from flexing and rubbing against the inside of the barrel as it's forced down the barrel.

This feature is what separates the Lucas type guide from the many others on the market.

I have multiple tips for mine. They do not match the rod diameter, but rather the bore. I also use Pro Shot rods. I have experienced no flexing inside the bore.

Further, I am hjaving trouble visualizing how a hole the size of the rod diameter will allow a patch through. Are you sure about the size?

What gets expensive is replacing damaged barrels. I cut my patches so they aren't too big. Trying to shove patches that are too big and tight are what cause binding. Clean slow and easy.
 
For your 30-06 rifle, 30 cal. bore guide, rod & jags. Sounds like your rod is for a 22, also the rod should be a one piece coated, make sure the rod is long enough when used with a guide.I like the Dewey nylon coated steel rods, has no flex & Possum bore guide MidwayUSA order a adapter with the rod
 
I have no problem using my 22 cleaning rod with a larger jag. It isn't necessary to get a larger diameter rod, just a larger jag.
 
I have been using a stainless one piece. I store it in a pvc pipe with a cork glued in one end, and a removable cork in the other. The brass guide seems to work well centering the rod. I also use a pro-shot sometimes.
 
That will work fine. I was thinking of using PVC also for a rod holder attached to my hard case but the handle of the rod was the problem, I like your cork idea. I clean only from the chamber out. Mark the rod so the jag just stops at the crown and slowly remove patch, dont want to ding the crown,even though it's a simple fix. Be Safe Chris
 
The rod I use has a round cylindrical handle that fits fine. I have used a T handled rod, but it isn't necessary to get a good grip.
 
For bolt guns I used the MTM guide that replaces the bolt. It was cheap and worked great for me. The one I speak of is the first one in the list in the post below mine. Good, and cheap.
