Good aftermarket pistol magazines?

Which aftermarket brands of magazines are good and which are junk, in your experience?

-Pro-Mag
-USA Magazaines
-Triple-K (waitaminute..."Triple-K"? As in KKK? What a horrible name!"
-Mec-Gar
-Western Magazines
-Eagle Magazines
-"Asian Military" (I've seen these for the Beretta.)
-South African Military (For the BHP.)

Others?
 
Mec-Gar are the OEM for alot of major companies, their magazines are excellent. All the others you listed are doubtful. For 1911 pistols, Wilson Combat is best.
 
I've had very poor luck with USA mags of any type, only had one Mec-Gar for a Taurus 92, it still works great.

PS I'm sure KKK is some type of international company with no connection to the now defunct American racist group. Seem to remember some gym bag zippers having "KKK" on them. Somebody starts a company in a foriegn country never expecting to do business in the U.S., 20 years later they find out thier name is offensive:o

If it's not an urban legend Ford had the same problem with some car they sold in Mexico only to find out that in Spanish the name meant "No-go".
 
As already noted, Mec-Gar are OEM for many gun makers, and the ONLY maker for SIG. They are the "class act" of the magazine business.

I've had good luck with Pro-Mags for CZs and S&W pistols, too, but I'm not sure that extends to other guns.

For 1911s, I've had great luck with Chip McCormick Shooting Star mags -- all of them 8-rounders, purchased from CDNN for prices of $9.99 - $14.99. (Think I have 8 of them.) Only my Colt mags work as well, but they cost a lot more and they didn't come with the rubber bumper on the bottom.
 
I've used the Mec Gars w/o a single problem in a few guns; Beretta & Sig. Have less experience w/ Pachmayr mags but have been equally satisfied. As for 1911 mags, I only use Wilson.
 
I have had bad luck with USA mags for a number of different guns.

I;'ve had good luck with MecGar mags for my Browning Hi-Power .40, and with ProMag 15-rd mags for my Glock 19.

For my Kimber Gold Match and my Kimber Compact, I use WIlson Combat mags for carry, and Chip McCormick mags for competition.
 
For 1911's, I prefer Wilson Combat 8rd (I see a trend here :D) and MetalForm 7rd mags. I've used Promag and Mec-Gar mags for my CZ's with no problems and they have worked well in other pistols I used to own but are now long gone from my collection .. USA and TripleK's are only good for chunking in the trash... They are not worth the packages they come in IMO. The other mags listed I have no experience with, so won't comment on them.

For the 1911, I just received some Wolff 7-round mags. Very nice. I'd be happy sticking with Wolff mags. Don't know why, but I've never really liked the plastic Wilson followers. I've had good luck with McCormick mags too.

For CZ, Beretta, Hk, or Sig mags, I'd stick with factory or MecGar mags only for carry. Never tried ProMags, but lots of peoples say they work fine.

For 1911 .45 caliber, I buy only GI spec, preferably WWII. You can still get them at shows for less than $10 if you don't care about the finish (I don't). Made to tough specs and rigid quality control. And, just like the movie, "Eight is enough".

Only aftermarket non-neutered mags I have are ProMags with the steel liner for my Glock 19. They have been 100% reliable witrh all types of ammo.
If the USA pistol mags are anything like their AR or Mini 14 mags I would recommend avoiding at all costs.
The most expensive mag is the one that does not function.

For the 1911, another inexpensive yet good choice is Metalform. Avoid recent production "GI mags", as it's doubtful they are really genuine US military issue.
 
The SA 17 rounders for the BHP are a steal. The trick is to load them up and leave them for awhile to loosen the springs a little. The reviews seem to be overwhelmingly positive. The ones I have are great. They break up the clasic lines of a BHP as they extend below the grip a little but 17 rounds is 17 rounds.

I've tried USAs, Triple Ks, and Eagles in various centerfire guns and have had bad luck with all of them, particularly the 3Ks. A small number of people have posted of having had good luck with USAs, though.
 
Ford doesn't mean anything in Spanish. They made a joke about Fords where F-O-R-D was a Spanish acronym for "mediocre manufacture and daily repair." Kind of like the American jokes of "Found On Road Dead" or "Fix Or Repair Daily." :D

The Nova story isn't true, either. "Nova" is a word in Spanish, too, and nobody in Mexico confused it with "No Va."
