I agree with the 168 grain Hornady-you might also try Remington's own 168 grain match. I have a Model 700 Varmint Synthetic in 308 and Federal's 168 did a 5/8" group, Hornady did 9/16", and the Rem did 1/2". My favorite factory deer load is the plain Jane 150 grain Winchester silver box soft points, which do 3/4". If you handload, I use 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips with 44 grains of Reloder 15, and overall length at 2.800 which gets me under a half inch when I'm up to speed with regular practice.
