Im hunting this year with my AR, now stop before we even get into the debate over .223 for deer. Ive used it many times and never mauled a deer, or had one run off after the shot. I dont hunt in a hurry, and only take clean shots.

All that said Im looking to load some good hunting rounds for the AR and wonder what projectile is suggested. Its a 1x9 16". Ive had good luck with regards to accuracy with weights to 68-69gn. I was thinking of trying these,http://www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/product/productId/414 but Im not familiar with them. Ive never tried to run any soft points out of fear of a malfunction when cambering them. Advice?

I have sure heard a lot of good things about the barnes triple shock bullets but dont have and experience with them yet. I actually loaded up some up for the .308 for deer this season so i should be able to let you knwo after the season. As for the accuracy it shoots pretty damn good. With my springfield i can shoot one inch groups with the stuff.

While I've never had a problem with soft-points chambering, that particular bullet looks to me like it should work as good as any other option.

I don't hunt with an AR, but I've shot thousands of soft point 223s in my ARs and never had a problem.

In fact I've never heard of any problems with any ARs shooting soft point bullets.

I have used Hornady 68 gn .Very accurate, Just an all around good bullet. Other than that take a look at Burger Bullets, little on the spendy side but also good bullets.

I've taken a couple whitetail with 68gr soft points outta my Mini-14 before and never had any problems, I wouldn't hesitate to use them in my AR either.

Being from Colorado I don't know anything

:D Can you legally hunt deer with a 223? Not that a 223 wouldn't take'em down, just ain't legal where I shoot.

Colorado, yes in GA we can hunt deer with a .223. We dont have mule deer here, well much and in given areas and terrain lots of shots are close in.

I have used the ol' Remington 55 grain soft point to dispatch deer. As a matter of fact, the same round is in my duty rifle.

I have also had success with 55 grain softpoints. I buy them in bulk from Georgia Arms. I think the larger bullet would be better, but the 55 grain in the heart/lung area works fine.
