Gonzales, Texas

A good time with all was evident in Gonzales, Texas last night with thought provoking words from all of the speakers.

US Congressman Richard Armey (R-Tx), US Congressman Ron Paul (R-Tx), Rick Green (Texas Legislative Representative for district 46 and staunch Republican) and others were present and provided poignant and rousing commentary on the state of our deteriorating nation and the constant attack on citizens’ personal rights by the klinton regime.

Jerry Patterson (Texas State Senator and author of Texas' Right to Carry law) was also there. A special THANKS to him.

Alice Tripp from TSRA and Larry Tatum from the NRA were present.

I make it my personal mission to address each one of these individuals, to thank them for their hard work in the legislatures, and to let them know that other freedom loving people notice and appreciate what they are doing for us. These folks take a lot of abuse in Washington and Austin for standing up for the Second Amendment.

We need more people like these individuals to step-up to the plate and be prepared to fight for our rights.

And a few, well placed political contributions don’t hurt anything either!

I was there too. Some very nice things were sadi by many of our representatives - Ron, Dick and Rick.

Ron Paul (I think it was he who made this comment) was very realistic about our future. He said he believes the Second Amendment has a life of about 10 more years - unless the direction is changed very quickly. That was the low point of the evening for me. He also said something that I'm not sure others really caught. He said, "In our efforts to make changes we still need to stay within the law, for now." He repeated this again using slightly different words. It sounded to me like he was trying to tell us not to haul out the guns yet, but there may come a time when we will have to. Anyone else get this drift?

Dick Armey surprised me with his seemingly very candid remarks, not a rehearsed speech, but he seemed to just "talk" from his heart. The best thing he said was something like, "We have the right to own our guns - and, we have the right to preserve that right." The crowd went wild on that one.

I spoke to Alice Tripp (head lobbiest for the TSRA) for a while. I wanted to know if we could get the price of the Texas CHL lowered. No deal. She said the cost is high because of the administration costs that the DPS incurs - she has seen the fugures herself. Unless the DPS consolidates some of these services the price will remain. My thought on this are basically, the more folks who have CHL's, the more folks will vote to keep them.

I have to say that hearing Ron Paul, you would have thought you were listening to Thomas Jefferson speak. He really knows the reason and true intent of the Constitution.

I think there were about 100 people there, far too few as most were locals from his and the Gonzales district itself. When I spoke to Ron Paul he asked me why I came down from Houston. I said, "becasue I know very well who you are and what you stand for." He flashed a big grinn after that comment and thanked me for my support.

I'll say it again - the pro-gunners get 100 people to attend, the Anti-gunners get 1000...

How about those “Come and Take It” flags (white with blue cannon), autographed by Ron Paul, and later auctioned off? I wanted one bad but alas I couldn’t swing it.

Would liked to have attended, but getting free in the middle of the week is a little tough. Next time, try for a weekend.
