Gonna rant a bit... ("Preban" AK and pawnshop)

It's friday and, oh, well...

Went into a pawnshop about three weeks ago, saw a Romanian AK with a folding stock for sale for around $350. Wasn't it bad shape to say the least, but wasn't NIB.

I just had to ask the fella who was giving me crosseyed looks if the aforementioned firearm was "preban."

His answer... "Of course it's preban...it accepts highcap clips."

Even my newly firearm-converted girlfriend had to laugh at this one.

People and shops like this are dangerous.

My wife insists on calling those AK magazines "Banana Clips".:D

I have corrected her several times, to no avail. "That's what we called them in the Army" is her response. Can't argue with that.:)

Not to detract from your point as to the degree of nimrodness displayed by Mr. Pawndude.

I was probably in the same shop on Monday when I was AK shopping!

Another shop in Phoenix had a SAR-2 rifle on the wall, $400 "RUSSIAN" AK! I laughed! And, when I saw a Romanian SKS with blade bayonet and all, I asked for the price and he said "$300 for this CHINESE SKS!"

The worst was another of our fine establishments had an M9 edition Beretta 92. I had, in the previous 3 hours, seen 3 separate examples of this pistol ranging from $499 to $599. This guy wanted $1395 for his!!!

I can appreciate being a bit pricier, like Shooter's World, but there's a limit!

Check Six.

AR-10 your bride is right, they get that name because they are curved like a banana and they are longer than the 20 round mags.

Not accurate. NFA of 34 taxed the possession of various items (SBR, AOW, Full Auto, DD, etc.). If you can find an AK47 that was legally registered or a semi-auto version legally converted before 86, you can own it IAW NFA 34 provisions (I'm referring to items fully transferable to civilians).

Dangerous is right; some poor sap is going to buy that Romanian AK with the folder and become the proud owner of an illegal "assault weapon".
