Gonna do something

I've been reading a couple of threads about the NRA and Wal-Mart. As I have read these threads, I realize one thing. I spend far more time commiserating with folks like you than I ever spend taking action. I am going to hit send when I finish typing this. Then I'm going to log out. Then, I'm going to e-mail Wal-Mart and let them know that I'm done shopping there because they no longer sell firearms. Then I'm going to e-mail a couple of like-minded friends and ask them to do the same thing. What are you gonna do when you finish up on TFL today?

Mods., Sorry if this is in the wrong place... or just plain wrong.

Wal-Mart

Perfect, robc.

I will send a polite letter letting them know that they have PERMANENTLY lost a loyal customer, and explain why.

Years ago when K-Mart hired Rosie O'Donnell as their spokes-idiot I did exactly that. I have not set foot in a K-Mart since, and never will.

It's the principle of the thing......

Do you have a source citing that Wal-Mart has made it their policy to quit selling guns in every store? Becasue I talked to the manager of Sporting goods and he laid it out for me.

Since there are so many Wal-Marts close together (in my area 3 within miles of either my home or work) they are cutting back the number of stores carrying guns to save on FFL fees, since each store has to have an FFL. In addition it saves them from the time and money it takes to train Sporting goods employees to handle gun sales. That way they can still sell guns at low prices.

Rather than boycott a company that will not even know or care that you are gone, why not talk you local representitives ear off about how you feel about gun control. He(or she) will care a lot more than Wal-Mart.

I am not boycotting Wal-Mart, because their decision to remove firearms from some of their stores is an economic one, not an acquiescence to the anti gun crowd. However, when K-Mart removed handgun ammunition from their shelves at the anti's request following 9/11, I vowed that the next thing I bought at one of their stores would be a box of 9mm ammo. Still waiting.

I can't say I won't be shopping at Walmart any more. I can say even if they continued to sell firearms I wouldn't buy one from them no matter what the cost. I purchased a 10/22 from a Walmart years ago. The person behind the counter called for a store manager. In a very disgusted tone he said over the intercom " need a store manager to sporting goods. We have a gun sale." Three times he said this over the intercom. I started feeling like a crimminal! When the manager got there I asked him if I was misreading the tone of voice from the emloyee. He said "no." Then he tried to defend him. I ripped him a new one then. No I can't say I will quit shopping at Walmart. I will say if anybody else comes close to them in price, I buy from the other folks. On top of all that I have heard customers ask the sales person a question about a particular fire arm only to hear some bs answer. So from a business stand point I don't think Walmart employees are sharp enough to sell fire arms.

Gnut,
Someone treats you that way, and their superior defends them, but it is an economic question that is more important? So you're saying that as long as they have such low prices, they get a pass?

I hope the price of freedom and civility isn't $2-3 per 50 rounds ;)

(I'm not attacking you... I absolutely understand what you are saying... but also in the back of my mind, there are red flags going up making me question what I would do if it happened to me. I don't know as it hasn't, though)
