I want to make the metal parts on my AK look like they are made out of gold. I was just wondering how real the duracoat gold color looks and if there is anything I can do to make it more realistic?
In any case, even a metallic gold paint isn't going to look anything like real gold, it's going to look like gold colored paint.
To see what it'll look like, go down to a hobby store and buy a small bottle of gold paint.
To get a real Gold look, you 're going to have to go with a plated finish.
You might try Gold Titanium Nitride (TiN) which is a gold colored super-hard plating used on cutting tools and has a reasonably close color to real gold.
TiN is expensive.
I think that Desert Eagle finished some of it's pistols in TiN to look like gold.
The best looking is going to be real gold plating.
