Nawlin's can be a bad place especially if you make a wrong turn since the housing projects are in the French Quarter. Your Oregon CCW permit is not vailid in La., but you have plenty of time to get a non-resident Fl. permit that would be. I have always carried in N.O. and even had a NOPD detective give me his name so I could call him if there was any trouble. His only suggestions were that I be clean cut and don't drink while carrying. There are MANY hotels on Canal Street (a border street of the French Quarter) where the SHOT Show attendees are staying. You can even catch a free shuttle to the show. Unfortunately N.O. isn't Vegas so rooms in the nice hotels are about $200 per night.
Buzz, SHOT is Jan 11-14, 2001 and is not open to the public. It isn't a gun show, it is a manufacturers trade show. It is open to anyone with outdoor sports industry related credentials.
