what's up guys!! i am going to get a shotgun by Feburary.

right now i only have a .22 and a 9mm. i wanted to get another handgun but after reading and reading and the same questions kept coming up i decide that i do need a shotgun.

just in case shtf. i only have a handgun for home protection and i would feel better to have a shotgun than a handgun.

i can't ccw because MW 8:30-2:00 in school pick up and drop my brother to school 4:00-6:50. pick up mom at a school district at 5:00-6. TR in school from 8:30 to 5:00 and then go pick up my mom. so i don't really need to ccw.

well i will be getting it because i will be able to afford it. my brother is taking classes that i will be taking next year and i will be using the same books.

in books alone i am saving $430 dollars. so i will be getting a mossberg 500 persuader and i will get the specops stock.

i can shoot buck shots out of the mossberg 500 correct.

it willl be my hunting, hd, and everything else gun.

do you guys think i should get a heat shield and a sling?

i am no stranger to shooting a shotgun.

do i have to do any cutting to put on the specops stock?

should i get the full stock or get a pistol grip and then add the specops stock?

where in texas do you live? i think it would do you some good to find a mentor... an older fellow with a pick up truck that has no need to creep. getting away from that gangsta mindset and in with some sportsmen would do you a world of good. join an explorer group or jrotc or something.

I am always amazed at people who want to add assault gun stocks and heat shields etc to their shotguns. They won't shoot any better and will only make you look like a mental case if you have to go to court. Leave the gun as it is and the bad guys won't notice the difference.

this is some kid that is understandably being ignored. if no one steps in and helps him out.......................................

i am from Mcallen TX. how am i a kid i am going to college i am 24.
m i have a lot of experience with rifles. a good amount of experience with handguns. i do have experience with shotguns. i have shot paloma(dove), and deer and hogs with a shotgun. that is all i know about shotguns personal. never cleaned on. i clean my other guns. my uncles only know about hunting with shotguns so they are no help. i am asking for help!! about the heat shield i want to know if it serves a purpose.

and to oletymer if you do a search on this forum ,the specops stock is not for looks or to look like an assault shotgun it is to help reduce the recoil when shooting buckshots and slugs. i don't know what you might have gotten from reading the tread.

this is a reason why i want a shotgun for just

A handgun would be fine for home defense. even more due to it being less unweildly in my opinion. that said I'm getting a mossberg 590-a1 soon. No on the heat sheild it serves no purpose but to look bada.. to ppl who dont know anything about shotguns. Just get a nice 12 gauge, I prefer pump action for defense by far. and go with some nice ghost ring sights or such. My main home defense gun is and still will be a .357 mag revolver.(my ccw to.:) A shotgun would be nice if a gang of outlaws tries to invade your home. Fun to be prepared but not very likely to happen if your a good boy.

OH and forget the pistol grips. they are horrible with felt recoil on your wrist and they will have a negative effect on handling and accuracy . Its much more practical with a standard stock.

thanks pezO i will not get the heat shield.

i will be getting the Mossberg Persuader 12-Ga. Shotgun.

is this shotgun in the 500 series?
will the specops stock work on this?
specops stocks works on mossberg 500, is the Persuader a 500?

Admittedly, i'm not a hd gun guru, so here are my bits:
If you are not set about getting the persuaider, consider that the plain model 500 has a bit more versatility (say, if you wanted to hunt with your own shotgun ). Plus, since it's available at a reduced price (and in a field/defense combo model), you could really have a do-it all shotgun. Of course, it seems like you could always get a loaner from your uncles to hunt so maybe everything I'm saying is moot. I just feel like if you enter the shotgun world, sooner or later, you'll wind up coming back for something a bit more versatile. But maybe that's ok. You can get something a little more suited toward "games" and "hunting" than SD. Compromise isn't always a good thing, so this is just something for you to think about.

But if you are really set on something only for HD, i say go for it! That spec ops stock should be great, (thier faq says that it fits all mossberg models except the 590 DA, and i'm sure you could call em. The persuader is listed as a 500 model on the mossberg website).

I think the heat shield purpose is to help cool the gun barrel down (if it's ventilated), but for your purposes, i don't think you need it. Put the money toward ammo :D

PS: post pics!

thanks pilgrim for the info

it's main purpose is for hd but i will use it for other stuff also. after i get the shotgun i will invest in a simple machine that you pull the string and it will throw clays for you. so i can get better in shooting. and at the range i can shoot a shotgun. i still want other guns like ak and sks but for now it will be the shotgun because i can shoot it at the range with my other guns. because the range is up to 25yrds and they don't let ar's, aks, or sks to be shot there. so the SG will do me better in every aspect.

i like the persuader i just wanted to make sure it was part of the 500 family so i can get the specops stock too.

like you said i can always borrow:D a shotgun. right now i shoot more birds then deer. during deer season i am in school or studying.

I have a Mossberg 500 with a heat shield and I don't consider myself a nut case or someone who knows a little bit about shotguns. If you like how something looks on a gun then get it. Don't worry about what others think. As for the Knoxx Spec Ops. The stock requires no modification but be sure to purchase the 1/4" driver they sell at Knoxx. It is an excellent item and well worth the money. The Spec Ops comes with the pistol grip and adjustable stock as ONE piece. It is not painful like other pistols grips due to the dual compensation system and the fact that there is a butt stock that takes trauma from the hand to the shoulder. And the persuader like most guns will shoot any buckshot as long as it's 2-3/4" or 3" 12 gauge ammo.

Cool, what better place to get off by yourself to do some studying than out in the woods. :D Seriously, I can relate to the deer thing, in High School, i would cut every opening day (got some wierd looks from the teachers, but :p ). But now it is somewhat different.

Anyway, the info i posted was just what i gleaned from the mossy website. You may want to put in a quick call to Knoxx just to be sure. And as i said, busting clays is addictive, so save some money.

to clarify when I say pistol grips I mean the less stock handgunlike pistol grips. The heat sheild if anything will keep you from burning your hands should you touch the barrel after firing alot of rounds. not likely to happen.

I called you a kid and if that offended you I apologise. I use the term kid lightly... anyone in their twenties or younger I suppose, and I'm sure a lot of others think the same way... but of course I'm not speaking for anyone but myself. You must admit that you set yourself up from the start using slang terms like "shotty" that tend to grate on peoples thinking. Using terms like that will have people assume that you've got the G going and you might not get as much help and input from a lot of the guys by presenting yourself that way. To each his own of course, I'm just giving you my two cents. As my Dad would say, take it or leave it. I thought I was an adult when I was 18, then when I turned 21 sitting in the middle east I realized I wasn't an adult at 18. Same story at 25, etc... Popping clays those bbls do get smokin' hot, but I don't see any need for a shroud. As for home defense, how many rounds are you gonna pump through that shotty? Not enough to get the bbl hot I hope or you'd be in a bad movie. Living behind the mesquite curtain I can understand a need of something beyond the ordinary. I patrolled the border down there and there are some scalliwags. Most people wouldn't believe most of the stories of what goes on in a border ciudad en la frontera.

you seem old enough to do what you want, but getting ready for the mythical SHTF scene that so many here dream of ,might not be the best reason to buy a shotgun.

I like to buy guns primarily becuase I enjoy the hobby. Sometimes thats the only reason to buy one and thats fine with me. If you like the pistol grip heat sheild multi shot scattergun for the reason of "just because" then by all means get one. Life is to short to be practical all the time.:)

greenegg, i guess i did set myself up. i apologise. i just use the shtf because it is more understandable. like greenegg, said there are alot of things going on down here. l live right on the expressway. all you do is get off the frontage road and bam you are at my house. everyday there are people coming around that either have a flat tire, out of gas, or need money for some reason and stop by my house at any given time of the night. i am always lock and loaded. but this happens too much. this week there has already been 5 people knoking(spelling) on my door, past 12:00am. so i feel shtf might happen for me. to many people coming around. i answer the door at night. i look throw the peep hole and talk to them throw the door but ido not open it. unless it is a hot chick:D (just kidding).

moving is not an option. my grandfather lives next door and we take care of him.

my brother who does not like handgun got my gun when he saw his sheet rock broken. he was in his room a car had plowed into my house or in his room. first it had to go through a couple of trees we had. things happen. but it was scary for my mom and my brother i was out paintballing.
