Skip the Ruger. I have a Mark III 22/45 and it is the biggest pain in the you-know-what to reassemble after field stripping. Get a Kadet (22LR conversion kit) for the SP-01.

The Rugers are great. They are difficult to disassemble/reassemble the first time. After that, piece of cake.
My two have probably paid for themselves in ammo cost savings alone. As much as I'd like a .22 kit for one of my 1911s, I have to ask myself "why?"

Ditto. My Kadet is quite accurate and reliable. Plus you can train with your full size SP instead of having to deal with a whole different manual of arms.

There's nothing wrong with a MK II if you want it.Conversion kits can be pretty pricey....better investigate before going that way.I prefer a stand alone .22lr

If you're not dead set on the Ruger, take a look at the Browning Buckmark pistols. Very nice, accurate, and can be found used for pretty good prices. It's just my preference, but I like the Buckmark better as far as fit and feel go, and looks, for what that's worth.

The Ruger Mark II is a fine gun. You really don't have to field strip it that often. When you do, you'll learn quickly how to reassemble. The position of the mag release between a Mark II and a Mark III is really irrelevant since this is a range/plinking gun and not for defensive purposes.

The 686 is also an excellent choice. Everyone needs a .357 magnum. I can't really comment on the CZ 75 since I haven't shot one but they obviously have a good reputation.

All in all, I would say you have a good mini-collection in those three guns.

i got the kadet adaptor, and i have a mkII. i prefer shooting the mkII, and using the kadet is different enough that i don't see a big need to practice with it much anymore. i still will from time to time - it is a fun gun.

i'd say my groups, from best to worst, go like this:

mkII
cz75 (as a 9mm)
cz75 (with kadet adaptor).

i'd say those 3 are a good combo - but you need a couple more to round things out. also, how about a ruger sp101 instead of the S&w?

The S&W 686 ( depending on what dash number it is, is a good gun ) - but I would not buy it, if it is a -5 or higher ( that's when they started putting some MIM parts in them, internal frame locks, etc ...).

Everyone should have a .22 / Ruger is a decent gun - but personally I like the Browning Buckmark a lot better.

I'm not a big CZ fan - but a 9mm is a good choice / I would at least suggest you look over the offerings from Sig before you buy ( 226 is a full size, 229 is a hair smaller, and if you like single stack guns there is the 239 series ). In my opinion, Sig makes a better gun - but if you don't like the Sig - look at H&K, or Beretta - unless you want to get into 1911's - and then take a look at Springfield for 1911's in 9mm at an affordable price.

nothing personal, but i don't really appreciate non-americans criticizing our president. especially since he hasn't done much worse than his predecessors so far. i mean, he can even speak english and stuff.

i think a lot of the blame falls on americans. put blame where it belongs, but don't blame a president when he hasn't even done what we're blaming him for (yet). whether we voted for him or not, he's still supposed to be leading this nation.

"Supposed to be" is the operative phrase.

excellent choices

I cant vouch for the cz but the other 2 you couldnt of made better choices on them and ruger and smith both have excellant customer service.
