Going Rate for a Model 67?

What's currently the "going rate" for a used, excellent condition S&W Model 67? I have seen some "very good" condition Model 15's in my local shop for $200. I'm guessing the 67 will go for a little more, but still guessing I should be able to find one, with a little looking, for $250 or so since it's a 4" .38... which is probably considered one of the "least glamorous" handguns in today's market. However, after much internal debate and thought, I'm pretty set on getting a 67 with some bonus funds from work (I have been considering everything between another 686, a GP 100, Glock 22, and XD-40). However, I'm going for the 67 for personal reasons.

Anyway, is $250 unrealistic? I'm not asking for the deal of the century, but just what would be considered realistic. I see them going on gunbroker.com for $320 - $350 which seems a little high to me (plus I won't buy one sight unseen).

$350.00 is normal for a unmolested 95% example. The grips by themselves are slightly collectible. I have seen pristine grips going for around $85.00.

Seems like the 38 (vs 357) K frame revolvers have stayed steady in price as the others climb. I don't think the demand is there from the general shooting public. ( who preffer Magnums/Autoloaders) .I got a 95% mod 67 ( pinned, pachmyer grips, no box, papers etc) for $200 even earlier this year at a local shop. IMHO $250 would be reasonable but I would be reluctant to pay much more unless there was something special about it.
FWIW, I think you picked a nice revolver. ( Just wish I ran into those mod 15's for $200 myself :-)

"What's collectable about the stocks? They came from the factory with Magnas."

Some of the diamond pattern magnas are bringing a somewhat premium price. New condition standard magnas can be found at about any gun show for under $20 and often under $10.

The M67 didn't hit the market till 1972. The Diamond Magnas and Targets were discontinued in 1968. The M67 didn't come from the factory with smooth Magnas or Targets unless special ordered. You would be hard pressed to find any M67 with collectable factory stocks as they were built as a LEO service revolver.

100% correct Majic. I was just commenting that the only magna grips that are bringing any kind of premium are the diamond, unless they were special ordered out of some exotic wood. As you mentioned, not likely, particularly for a police grade firearm, and due to the age of the 67 it didn't come factory with diamonds.
I know a couple of dealers and guys at gun shows who have a boxes with assortment of loose grips. There are always several sets of magnas in their boxes.

Well, grips are kind of a secondary consideration for me, as I have an older set of K-Frame target grips that I'll be installing. I'm primarily just interested in the going rate for the 67. Again, feeling that $250 or lower would be realistic, but don't expect to find anything lower than $200 (for the most part).

Thanks Tacoma. In my earlier shooting days, I was enthralled with 9mm autos and went through a few until finally getting a Hi Power. I still get the urge to pick up a Glock or other such handgun, but really, at this point, think a 67 would be about the best combination of versatility and accuracy for most of my needs. Plus, the 67 was the first handgun I ever shot (my father had one and I, in my youth, somehow convinced him to sell it to get a Ruger Mk II.... which was a horrible, horrible mistake).
