i'm in Florida, with a valid CWP, and am going on a trip in two weeks to WV.
anybody know of anything i should be looking out for, since i'll be carrying the whole trip? FL's permit reciprocates in all states... and i know NC makes you notify law enforcement that you are carrying, if you come in contact with them (unlike FL)

so, anything i should know before going?

im not sure ur FL ccw will be vaild in all states. I would make a call to the state police of any state ur gonna drive thru to make 100% sure. I would bet ur FL ccw wount be vaild here in IL. IL has ZERO abillity for anyone besides LEOs to carry.

I would also bet reguardless of how Valid ur CCWis from FL, there is now way you would be able to carry on a plane if ur trip was longer.

Check out the handgunlaw.us website and make sure you understand all of the various state laws that you'll be faced with during your travel. That should pretty much cover all you need to know.

born/raised in MD/DC

yeah, sadly, they will laugh at my permit... i don't have any plans on crossing the potomac, and if i do, i won't be carrying. i'm not going to be stuck in a friggin' MD jail over something so stupid as them not honoring my rights

i've also checked out handgunlaws.us thoroughly, and i'm sure i'll be fine. i plan on identifying that i'm carrying if i get pulled over no matter where i am outside of FL, just to be safe. i'll be in a very large private neighborhood the whole time i'm up there, so i'll be fine. plus, there aren't laws in WV ;-)

FL's permit reciprocates in all states

That is NOT true.....why many folks also get the Utah permit - to cover most of the states that FL has no reciprocity with - even then, there are still a few (NV comes to mind off the bat)

useful travel resources...

I'd check here: www.mylicensesite.com www.USA.gov and get the 2010 ed of the Traveler's Guide To Gun Laws. I posted the direct website in another topic but I don't know it. The author is a atty in KY. He explains all the firearms-carry laws & regulations.
He updates it often and the guide has been printed for many years.

I've been starting to find a real variation in laws between states of whether you can have a 'loaded gun' left in your car, or related to how you have one in your car, etc. So, I"m watching for those things as well.

+1 to the 2010 Travelers Guide to Gunlaws. Its also available on the NRA site. It has one-page summaries for the major points for each of the states with text descriptions of what is and is not OK regarding in-car on most. I have the "big books" too but like this one for quick reference.

i meant that FL's premit reciprocates in all the states i'm traveling through. although, i had no idea about the Utah permit! good to know! do you have any info i could get on getting an out of state permit? i'd love to cover my bases!

Thanks again for the info!

Well, going from Florida to West Virginia should not include any trips into Maryland, and if you happen to venture into "Stinkin' Lincoln" you have went completely off course.

Just checked on Handgunlaws web site and Utah's permit has 16 states with NO reiprocity and FLA's has 14 states that do NOT recip with them.

Utah No Recip-OR, NV, CA, NM, KS, IA, WI, IL, SC, MA,CT, RI, NY, NJ, MD, DC

FLA No Recip- OR, CA, NV, MN, IA, WI, IL, MA, CT, RI, NY, NJ, MD, DC.

All is a mute point because the OP can get from point A to point B and avoid MD and DC
