Going for the Kel Tec P11 & P32

O.K. , Like i said in an earlier post, i have been reading so many good reviews (and a couple not so good) on the Kel Tecs, That I kinda got a touch of Kel-Tec Fever . I talked my wife into stopping by our favorite shop and checking them out. Now we have to cough up enough green for a p-32 for my wife and then I can have the p-11! At least I can get both for what one glock or HK sells for. I kind of like that little 32 myself. Can't wait to shoot it. I know the P-11 won't compare to my beretta 92 but for a toter for ccw it will suit me fine.I can pick up the P-11 for $229 and $239 for the p-32. They say the 32 is selling as quick as they can get them in.

you won't regret the purchase. they are however not perfect from the factory. I did the fluff and buff and my p11 is great. no jams in the last 1500rds or so. I used everything I could get my little hands on and it is not picky at all. I wish I could get a p32 though. that is the ccw king. nothing on this earth that can touch it's elegent design. I just wish those good folks at keltec would invest a bit more on their tools. the product is ok out of the factory but some shooters hate pistols that you have to work on. I love to tinker so it's fun. I never had to tinker with it more than my p10 para ord. That sucker is the worst cycling pistol I own. I think I can spead load my 357 dan wesson three time before the p10 could cycle 10 rounds. I think the para ord get more credit than they deserve. Sig, HK and Glock are new designs and they got them right within a few years. 1911 is old as hell and para still can't get it right out of the box...but I have only owned two. I have one left and will NEVER get rid of my keltec.

I can't say enough about my P-32. It hasn't jammed or misfired once since I bought it. It shoots softer than a Jennings JT-22 I had *blush* and the hard chrome is easy to clean. I can shoot it pretty well (with regular practice), and a talented shooting buddy of mine can make it work wonders at ungodly distances for a mousegun. At under 10 ounces fully loaded with one in the pipe, it stays in the watch pocket of my jeans or shorts and goes everywhere with me. It's hard to remember you have it on you most of the time! When I can't carry my Glock 19, the P-32 "elephant gun" goes with me.

A friend of mine got a blued P-11 around Christmas. Since then, he's put about 500 rounds through it and it has had ONE jam - the second shot of the first magazine fired through it. I did a trigger job on it for him, which I found here on the internet, and it REALLY smoothed up the trigger. He can hang with me and my Glock out to about 15 yards, even though the barrel on his P-11 is shorter and the trigger is harder to manage.

Either one is a great gun. The P-32 is practically invisible as a carry gun, and the P-11 packs the maximum amount of post-ban 9mm firepower in the smallest available package. They both take some initial practice to break in and get used to, but with about 150 practice rounds and a good "fluff and buff" they're really hard to beat as carry pieces. The prices on them are really good too, if you can find a dealer who isn't out to stick it to you.

One last thing - if you can find one, get the P-32 FIRST. The P-11s are pretty easy to find or order, but it took me 6 months and a transfer from Minnesota to put a hard-chromed P-32 in my hands. None of my local dealers (about 10 or 11 of them) were able to get ONE P-32 in ANY finish from any of their distributors. If you find one, BUY IT. If you can nitpick between available finishes, get the hard-chrome models. The price difference should only be about 20$ higher than the blued models, and the hard chrome finish is pretty much rustproof. They look a lot better too, IMHO, contrasting with the black grips. If you can't find a chrome model and you end up getting a blued model, you can exchange the blued slide for a chromed one directly from Kel-Tec for 20$.

Hope all my long-winded advice helps!

Another vote for the P-32, I carry mine for a backup/off duty gun as a LEO and I love it. Its very light and invisible even in a shirt pocket, carried like a package of cigarettes. Get the chromed slide model if you can find one, if not send your slide back and have it hard chromed.

Took my new P11 to the range today. The good news is that 100 rounds of Winchester went through with no problems.

The downside is that it was not very accurate (compared to my G23 and PPK; although better than my 342ti), and the DAO trigger is tough to get used to. Granted, maybe it was me not being used to the DAO trigger that caused it not to be so accurate.

Branrot,

Check out the Kel-Tec Owners Group website (can't think of the address offhand - www.kotg.org I think) and if you can find a Dremel tool, a "fluff and buff" trigger job will improve the feel of the trigger and help your accuracy a lot. I had a Dremel, so all I had to buy was a "polishing kit" with some felt pads and some jewelers rouge for about 3$. After I fluffed and buffed mine, I used some Tetra gun lube when I reassembled, and the trigger pull had gotten so much better it felt like a different gun.

I think the P-11 is a lot like a snubby revolver, rather than an automatic. You'd still have that long, heavy DA trigger pull if you carried a snubbie, but with a P-11 you have 10 shots of 9mm on tap rather than 5 or six of 38 special.
