Going Cowboy Gun Crazy

Man! What a day this has been. I sold two of my semi auto's, and purchased a new Beretta Stampede 5 1/2", a slightly used Ruger Vaquero, 4 plus ", and a used SW66 4".

My son may end up with the 66, but those cowboy guns are all mine. I watched Wyatt Earp last night. The sceen where he has acquired the bullies six gun, and later while checking it out, rolled that free cylinder down his forearm. That's what I'm gonna do tonight just to see how it feels... :D

for those of us who have never/may never get the experiance, whats it like to get to buy 3 guns in one day? :) Help us live vicariously through you.....:)

sounds like your happy. hope you enjoy them as much as i would.

Well, cost wise it's really not a big deal. The trick is, I gave up two semi-auto's both worth over $500 new, plus $150 cash for the three revolvers.

You're right. For an old man, I'm very happy. Buying these types of guns kinda makes me feel like a kid again. Hey! anyone want to play cowboys, and indians??? ;)

Thanks for the reply... :)

I'm guessing that you grew up on saturday westerns and Gunsmoke on TV also.

The most satisfying purchases I have ever made were recent cowboy guns.

I did almost the same thing you did for the same guns A 71/2 inch 44/40 Cattleman and a 4 3/4 .45 Vaquero, Marlin .45 Cowboy and a Rossi 44/40 lever gun

Traded a Randal 1911, Dan Wesson .357 and a derringer and something else that I honestly can't remember

So have you practiced your quick draw yet

I have to admit, I've been struggling to resist the temptation myself. I don't think, however, I'd sell any of me beloved semis to fund any cowboy aquisitions, though. I've been thinking of a repro Remington 1858 cap and ball wheelgun, and one of those Stampede Marshalls.... and a Winchester 94 Trapper in .45 Colt... and a 1863 Sharps repro... and I think I need a second job... ;)

JRFoxx, I noticed on another thread you are a member of the U. S. Navy. For that reason alone, one day you will get to purchase three guns on the same day. When it happens, let me know... ;)

My gun dealer had a couple of fast draw rigs he wanted me to try. It's been 40+ years since I've had one on. I declined. Can't you just see it now. A 70 year old man walking around the neighborhood with a Beretta Stampede strapped low in a cowboy rig. Next, here come the guys in the white jackets...

I'd walk in the front door with that thing on, and my wife would walk out the back. The end result would be. First, she divorces me. Second, I'd starve to death. Why, because she's a great cook... :D I think I'll just keep them in my range bag.

Maybe you should look into Cowboy Action Shooting. Have you looked into leverguns and coachguns yet. :D

And just curious what semi-autos did you sell?

Well, I've been there, done that, and was 25 years old. Today, I'd probably blow a hole in my leg... Check your PM's for an answer...

I did grow up with western and detective shows. The Princess Theatre balcony was where we went to see them. They came to TV later and I was surprised that a colour TV cut off some of the picture. I remember John Wayne movies with a sad sense of nostalgia. CAS and WASA have been absolutely a ton of fun. I began with my old Hawes/Sauer single actions. I graduated to Ruger Vaqueros and now I too am looking at the Italion Stallions. I collect Colts and I have not had a collectible Single Action Army yet. I usually buy three SAA clones myself. In SASS shooting, three are sometimes written into the stages. Two are always in scenarios and a back up won't be a bad idea. My problem so far, caliber. I have had 38 Specials, 357, 41, 44 and 45 Magnums and just for giggles, 32-20, 44-40 and 44 Colts. I am torn between 357 Magnums and converted black powder Remingtons at present. I enjoy antique double actions too. S&W M1902s and M1905s, Colt DA 38s and Webley 455s. WASA rules allow them.

bullrock- i appreciate the wishfull thoughts as to my Navy job and career, but i work in elctronics reapir for weapons systems on EA-6B's and F-14's and thus we are issued no guns. also, due to problems with my knees, my career is soon to be over with, but i hope to be wise enough (and have a couple gunsworth trading if needed) to be able to live my dream of at least briefly owning Many different types of guns.
in my job, i spend thousands a day, but alas, not on guns :(

That's a trick I use quite a bit to save money.
2 or more at one time gives you a lot of leverage as a buyer.
Figure roughly about an extra 10% savings over buying each gun individually.
Sad since it appears you in one of those "once a month" places.

Bullrock,
Next you need a lever gun, a SxS coach gun and a derringer for the vest pocket :D

oh yeah - a big and I mean BIG honkin Bowie ;)

YEee haww!!

I second the double-barrelled hammergun. Everyone should have one. They're not easy to come by now. Mine is a Rossi 'Overlander' and it is inspiring to shoot it, especially with hot loads.
Talk about kick! It's like a small mule but the satisfaction is enormous.
