I'm not an LEO but I have a son who was a street cop for a few years in a large city. He was diligent about going to the range for regular practice because he felt his job required that he be actually proficient with his firearm. He told me, however, that the actual proficiency tests he had to take were a joke, with a large paper target set up about 10 feet from the shooter's position. He added that many of his fellow officers rarely if ever fired at the range and were probably less skilled than some of the gangbangers they had to deal with. That all said, it is obvious that the police need high capacity semi-automatics since they need this capacity to spray and pray that they hit their target. But there is something nostalgic to think of all cops going back to 6-shooters. Maybe we could really be safe and have them use old single action Colt 45's, worn in a low, tied down cowboy holster.
