First it was a stroke, then it's not, then it IS again.
Johnson, who turns 60 later this month, was admitted to George Washington University hospital at midday after experiencing what his office initially said was a possible stroke.

His spokeswoman, Julianne Fisher, told reporters that it had been determined that the senator had suffered neither a stroke nor a heart attack.

But several hours after she spoke, Dr. John Eisold, the Capitol physician, called that into question with a statement of his own.

"Senator Tim Johnson was admitted to the George Washington University Hospital today with the symptoms of a stroke.

Well now they're saying he's recovering from brain surgery. Am I evil for being thankful for this so the governor can appoint a GOA rated "A" or "B" senator to finish Johnson's term? I didn't think so either.

I tell ya, you GOTTA avoid those new pelonium chalupas.

Were the Dems evil for hoping for the death of Clarence Thomas (on PBS) or the assassination/death of Bush (DU and other sources)? We should strive to be better than them.

Johnson would use violence against you. He would send armed individuals to your home to violently force their way in and inflict all sorts of violence upon you and your family if your firearm isn't to his liking. He would then rob you of your property and your life by putting you in a federal gulag for what is it 10 years for most firearms violations?

Wanting someone like that to die is a proper response. It stops being mere politics and debate when one side INITIATES violence. If someone tried to do any of that stuff to you WITHOUT hiding behind government, you (I hope) would give them a lead based pacemaker at a high rate of speed.

Real high road. We rage at the Brady Bunch dancing in the blood of innocent victims, and here the OP wishes premature death on a sitting United States senator.

The only thing here needing a premature death is this thread. It already stinks to the heavens. :barf:

While I recognize that this is an opportunity for anti-leftist, pro-RKBA folks like myself, I still don't wish the death of this guy. It is much better, IMHO, that he is defeated at the ballot box. Or, that he does not die but instead eventually recovers and then retires -- which has the same political impact (the SD gov is a 'Pub and would probably appoint a 'Pub for the interim in either case, swinging the balance of power in the senate back to the 'Pubs) and yet allows us to maintain something like the high road.

We don't need to stoop to the lowbrow nature of our opponents. It makes us look bad, and hinders us when we attack the low road nature of the leftists and anti's.

Were these people that voted Democrat or actual members of the DNC? There's a very distinct difference just like the folks here don't represent the entire GOP or even the entire range of Republican supporters.

Yes, and yes.

While I may disagree with Senator Johnson on some subjects I wish him a speedy recovery.

I'm not a Democrat, but I don't want a Senator (Democrat, Republican, or otherwise) to die simply because I disagree with his or her political opinions. That's terrible. My prayers are with the Senator and his family.

Care to back that up with some evidence? Please provide a statement by the Senator which supports your allegations. I don't think that you can, so I'll call you on it.

No, I don't think so. It is an inmature and, frankly, a disgusting thing to advocate.

As opposed to all those freedom-loving Senators with an (R) after their name who would send the same armed individuals to my home to batter down my door if I ingest a substance that isn't to their liking?

And the plot sickens... Johnson asked for an investigation into the anthrax scare as Congess is supposed to do.

U.S. lawmakers press for info on 5-year-old anthrax scare

A cadre of U.S. lawmakers fired off a letter to Attorney General Alberto Gonzales pleading for new information on the five-years-and-running investigation into the 2001 anthrax scare that shocked South Dakota when then-Sen. Tom Daschle's office was caught up in the attacks.

The bipartisan letter, signed by 33 members of Congress this week, extends an effort by Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, and Rep. Rush Holt, D-N.J., to persuade the FBI to release an update on the case.

"In one of the most important terrorism investigations ever undertaken by the FBI, it is unbelievable to me that members of Congress, some who were targets of the anthrax attacks, haven't been briefed for years," Grassley said.

The FBI, citing concern about information in the unsolved case being leaked to the public, has refused lawmakers' requests.

Grassley and the other lawmakers said in the letter that leaked information is a valid concern, but they maintained it does not justify keeping lawmakers in the dark. They said they need the information to perform their required oversight of the FBI's performance.

Congress "cannot be cut-off from detailed information about the conduct of one of the largest investigations in FBI history," the lawmakers wrote to Gonzales. "That information is vital in order to fulfill its Constitutional responsibility to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch."

South Dakota's congressional delegation did not sign the letter, but Sens. Tim Johnson and John Thune said they support their colleagues' request.

"After five years, the FBI should be able to pass on some information to Congress on the progress they have made in finding the terrorists responsible for this attack," Johnson said Tuesday. "This kind of bi-partisan demand for checks and balances should not be ignored, and will hopefully move the investigation into this case forward."

The attacks - linked to the deaths of five people in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks on Washington and New York - brought terrorism to the door of South Dakotans when, in October 2001, anthrax arrived in a sealed envelope at Daschle's office in the Hart Building in Washington. It came with a message that said "you die now."

Daschle said earlier this year the FBI had denied several of his requests to be briefed on the status of the investigations.

In his recent book, "Like No Other Time," Daschle said he felt helpless in the immediate weeks after the anthrax attacks, but he also wrote that he had "made peace of mind with this kind of threat."

FBI agents continue to work the case, and lawmakers say it is time they are brought into the fold to assess whether federal investigators are doing their jobs effectively.

"While I understand the need for caution given the ongoing criminal investigation, Congress has the right to conduct oversight and the FBI should be more forthcoming with this case," Thune said Tuesday.

BTY, VC, a stroke is caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain. It can be an ischemic stroke which is usually a blood clot in one of the small arteries that carry blood to to the brain, or it can a hemorrhagic stroke, which is a burst artery, hence the brain surgery.
