Go No-go?

Heard some guys throwing this term around...

"go, no-go"
"I go-no-go'd it and it fit fine" referring to 5.56 in an AR...

Talking about if ammo will fit your gun specifically...

Atleast one of them referred to it as a guage...

What is this?
 
They are talking about headspace guages. The headspace of the rifle has to be within certain measurements of length and so you attach them to your bolt face and if the go gauge doesn't fit the headspace is too small. If the no-go fits than there is way too much headspace. Its a quick way of measuring without the need for dozens of different gauges.

Military rifles in particular tend to have go and no-go gauges.
