Gloss black finish available?

I've long wanted to do a custom gloss black finish on a pistol I'd like to put together for my daughter but this fell to the back burner a while ago.

I'm looking for a gloss piano black finish for a PPK. Not blued, but glossy jet black. Can anyone make a recommendation? Thanks.

Several options:
GunKote comes in gloss black (2400 series). Also comes in midnight black, a very attractive color that looks surprisingly like bluing.

Brownells sells bake-on finishes.

Brownells also sells the Durabake finish.

Brownells sells their Baking Lacquer finish.

Most of the black finishes like black chrome are in a satin or matte finish, not glossy.

The "paint" type epoxy finishes, including the new ceramic finishes all seem to be matte.
The Germans seem to have had good luck with lacquer type finishes. Walther used a lacquer jet black glossy finish on the post-war P-38/P1 frame, and CZ has used a lacquer finish on some models.

You might talk to Ford's and Cogan to see what they might be able to do:

Thanks. Fords isn't taking in new work at the time and Cogans doesn't appear to offer anything based on their website. I will call Cogans just in case.

Anyone have an idea? Oh, and I'm looking for a pro to do the work. Not rally interested in a DIY option!

APW/Cogan does offer black chrome, but they say theirs is a more matte finish.

Techplate offers a glossy black chrome, but it seems to be best applied over another plate like hard chrome.

Note that black chrome is not a very durable finish. It's about equal to standard bright nickel.
However, as done by Techplate it should meet your need.

This is Duracoat Semi-Gloss Black:
It's actually a bit glossier than shown in the pic. You can vary gloss by adjusting the hardener. You might call Lauer and ask them about it.

So far it looks like black chrome over hard chrome gets me closest but still would prefer a "piano" black. I'm looking to make a presentation piece not and EDC pistol. Thanks for the input so far. Keep em coming!

I know you said you wanted black, not blued, but modern hot salt "blueing" is really just a black oxide finish. The final look depends on the degree of polish. If polished to a mirror finish, the final look will be like a jet black mirror. If bead blasted it will be matte black. Think of older Weatherby, or some new Brownings. Highly polished black oxide "blueing".

Cheers, Ruff
