I am close to buying a new G43.I'm asking TFL any possible help in avoiding any of the problems that plagued the early G42's.All comments are welcome and appreciated. Skeets

I rented and tried a very early G42, I absolutely loved it. No recoil and scary accurate. It was the most accurate gun for me that I have ever shot, any caliber (well handgun wise). If would also like to try the 43 and if I ever decide to get a pocket gun a think I'll get a glock over the PF9 I really like. I would say go for it, glock should honor their warranty and any problems you WONT HAVE. They are trustworthy and I'd you have a lick of trouble glock will make it right. I was not aware there where any problems with early G42s, although it doesn't surprise me as it was a brand new model built from scratch

I'm a GLOCK fan too... but for a smaller 9mm you really should look at the S&W Shield.

Totally reliable, super accurate & it's about $100 cheaper.

Shield is a softer shooter then the 43.! I almost forgot, you get two mags with the Shield.

One 7rd. & one 8 rd. :)

I have not read of any problems with the 43. Apparently the 42 issues were worked out though. I know a few people with early 42s and they are still running perfect today. The 42 is definitely the better shooter - smaller but less recoil. Both are great guns though. As the other poster mentioned, the Shield is a great gun too.

I personally hated the shield. For some reason I shot it terribly much much worse than any other pistol maybe besides my old glock 20 gen 3. It may have been the trigger or the grip, but I know I shouldn't own one because of my lack of skill with it

The G43 was the first Glock I bought, and I fell in love with it and a few months later purchased a G17.

I thought the G43 handled the recoil really well. On the other hand my brother swears by his Springfield XDs 9.

I never really cared for Glocks myself, but always recognized they are good guns. Until the 43 came out. Now it's my EDC gun and I love it

The only issue I had with my G43 is the overly heavy trigger pull, which was remedied with a drop in Ghost Edge connector.

Was the US the first market for the 42 and 43?

Not for the 42, that's the whole reason it came to market first. While most US customers were screaming for a single stack 9mm, the rest of the world had a higher demand for a .380. In many countries, civilians aren't allowed to own weapons in military calibers (such as 9mm). Glock had more global demand for the .380.

I am not sure if the 43's debut was in the US first or not.

I have both the G42 & 43, never had a problem with either not discharging every round run through them. I like the 42 better for size and very light recoil...both are super accurate.

The magazine issues were early on and were easily remedied by trimming the mag catch a tiny bit. The later production doesn't seem to have this problem at all. This minor problem (which not every gun had) was a lot different from the numerous issues that early G42 owners suffered.

Glock has produced .380s for years, the G25 and G28, but they are not available to the general public as they do not earn enough points to meet BATFEs standards for import. The G42 was developed for the American market, produced here, so the importation rules were irrelevant.

I like mine a lot and carry it daily. I owned a Shield and sold it. Great gun but make mine a Glock. I've also held but not shot the XDs which is a nice gun too but the grip is too aggressive, the gun is too heavy and I detest grip safeties. Mine has been 100% since day one and is very accurate.

Glock 43

My wife got an S&W Bodyguard. Liked it after we fixed the trigger pull. After that I ordered a G43 for myself. One day at the range she tried the 43. We have since sold the BG and have another 43 on order. A really well designed piece!

As soon as my FFL gets one in stock I'm buying one for my wife. There were 3-4 similar guns she thought were OK, but she REALLY REALLY liked the G43. Said he put in an order for 5 more than a month ago and hasn't received one yet, but in that time he has promised all of them to regular customers. Said they have been real hot since San Bernadino.

My sister has recently gained thhe desire to have a concealed weapon, she has never had a pistol before. I provided her with some instruction and a variety of pistols and revolvers, she likes the G 42 the best with the G 43 runnin a close second ("the trigger stings my finger") She really needs more practice time before making a choice. Even with this inexperienced shooter neither pistol has had a malfunction.

I got the sting with G43 as well and would thus likely get a G42 first. But I'd get a G26 before either.
