Glock training pistol -- restricted?

Why is this red/orange Glock trainer pistol restricted to LEO types?
http://www.glock.com/training.htm

I may have misread the description but it looks like it won't chamber a round. Can you put a regular Glock slide on the frame? Is that why the "average joe" can't own one?

I was looking for a safe way to practive dry firing... <grumble>

I guess I don't see where it says that either pistol (Training or Practice) is limited to LEO. Are my eyes that bad?

It is my understanding that the "colored" frames are only to be for LEO's for training and they can easily be made fully functional and are interchangeable with other glock parts. The red frame guns I believe are for simunition and will chamber a normal round. The resulting recoil which the gun is not designed for could be very dangerous to the shooter. Glock does not need any more lawsuits.

They may also be worried about the gun being made functional and the LEO's having trouble telling a "toy/trainer" from the "real thing".

Don't worry about dry firing a Glock. They're designed to be dry fired. Just make sure it's unloaded and ammo away from the area when you dry fire.

The red framed guns are non-firing practice/drill pistols.

The blue framed piatols are given a "T" designation (i.e. GLOCK 17T, GLOCK 17T 9mmFX, GLOCK 17T 7.8x21AC). These pistols fire specific speciality ammunition for training and tactical mission use.

Airsoft Glocks make quite good training weapons as they are holsterable and will fit accesories like an M3. Additionally one can be bought which require proper gun handling and simulate recoil. They fire plastic pellets at relatively safe velocities. They are available with red and blue frames.
