Glock refuses gov't deal

I am surprised to see little on the glock issue from today. On the radio I heard that glock refused to sign-off on a deal because of one issue, THE FORMATION OF A MULTITASK FORCE REGULATORY PANEL made up of gov't officials from state and fed. level. I don't know the details of the S+W deal, but I don't believe it had an oversight committee with unquestionable authority over issues. I am somewhat surprised because Glock has made much money by being in bed with PD to provide the overwhelming majority with their sidearms. Who in the world would pay for this task force/team of beurocrates? Who will first sucomb to such gov't demands?

Yes! I hope they continue to stand firm.

The supervisory committee is an ugly Socialist apparatus that's potentially unconstituional.

Vote, vote! Join the NRA, GOA Sports Shooting Foundation and get others to join. We will lose more than just this if Gore and his fellow travelers get to office.

mept, the S&W deal is far worse than is being reported in the media. The complete document can be found at http://www.isra.org/smithagree.pdf . The document is in .pdf format so you will need Acrobat to read it. Take some time to read it in its entirety. It will not make you happy. It is a sellout in the worst way.

Odd thing about S&W is that only 1/3 of their sales are to govt contracts, that means we account for 66% of sales. I find it interesting that they plan on alienating the people who account for the majority of their sales.

Jeff,
From everything I've read, the parent company
of S&W is looking to sell it off. I imagine
that is the main reason for all of this
nonsense. I read the agreement at Neal Knox's site www.nealknox.com. It is a nightmare. Most of the items are totally
unenforceable as they apply to the retail
dealers.

Actually, S&W was quite smart in some ways.

How much longer are these "civilian sales" going to be legal at all?

Civilian market is history, LEO is the future. Look at other anti-rkba countries (e.g. Australia) where cops don't buy their personal sidearms in regular stores.

They are taking a short term risk though as LEOs still often buy their personal sidearms at regular stores.

The civilian market is history ONLY if we allow it to be history. If you believe we will inevitably lose, then turn in your weapons now.

buzz_knox,

Well said. Where would be now if people had said "Japan beat us at Pearl lets give up?" What if everyone would have said "the British are too strong lets remain subjects?"

I'm glad Glock and Browning are standing up to the bullying, gun-grabbing Feds. What is sickening is that we're not hearing the same outrage and determination to protect citizen and company rights from conservative Congressmen.

YEEAAAHAW, Well I just hope Glock does'nt fall under to the "Land of Freedom" <cough> goverment. Keep up the good work Glock. (Now I think that I'll take the Glock 19.... ;) )

Fubsy,
How can you separate gun rights from politics when the only people trying to violate our rights are politicians? It's like trying to discuss medicine but refusing to discuss doctors. JMHO

I must add my thanks to glock and torus for their fortitude, and willingness to stand up to the gov. thuggs.
cullen good responce, if we don't discuss the politics of gun ownership in this forum we will be blind to what is actually going on out there, you don't really belive the press do you? I will add this, if china makes good on their threat concerning tiwan, we wont have to worry about our right to keep and bear arms.

Yo Battler, if LEO is the future then does that mean you accept a police state where the cops are somehow smarter, wiser, more knowledgable, more altruistic, etc.? The day I give up my weapons is the day the cops better give up their's also. No one is above the law- not police, criminals, politicans-no one. What an Orwellian statement to make.

AK9 - I don't like it but a business could see such a situation as quite realistic.

I didn't speculate on when the gun roundup would occur either.

And realize that people in some US states have (been forced to) tolerate very draconian measures (e.g. 6 month handgun waiting period in NJ).

So tell me, what future is there in making threaded AR15 barrels? There's someone making threaded AR15 barrels, it's inherently legal to make threaded ar15 barrels; but if you had a a threaded ar15 barrel-based business, you would have to concur that, despite the fact that many civilians still own grandfathered (and soon to be registered) threaded AR15 barrels (and the gun they came on), you would say quite comfortably that mil/leo IS the future.

Ditto with high-cap mags. They can grandfather/let you keep a lot of equipment, whereupon the maker of that equipment then serves LEO/govt sales.

By NO means am I saying that I like all this, it's the present reality (and unless the tide turns, an indication of future reality).

Battler.

Pssssst. Don't tell anybody, but my opinion of Glocks has just gone way up!!!!
If this trend continues, I might just have to buy one of those critters.

Why are we talking about politics? The 2nd Amendment deals with a limitation on the government's ability to infringe on a civil right. That, by definition, involves the political structure of our government. That's politics.
