Does it hurt the gun to drop the slide on an empty magazine?I once had a problem with the slide release now i am paranoid and I do it quite often.

I have a Glock 19. As far as I know, it won't hurt it. It hasn't hut mine, anyway. I do it a lot, practicing mag changes. the pistol has yet to malfunction in any way.

i can't imagine it being good for the gun. whenever you can i would recommend that you slowly lower the slide when not chambering a round.

I'm sure that if you did it a couple thousand times, it wouldn't be a good thing. Taken in moderation, though, I don't see a problem.

The glock will not be affected by letting the slide ram home, this is preferred even when the gun is empty. Slowly letting the slide go back is for those who fear their gun will "break" or "mar". These are not Glock owner fears.

Most "modern" autos are not harmed by this practice. However, a finely tuned 1911 or P35 can be troublesome as it can upset the hammer/sear engagement thereby ruining the trigger job. As far as Glock....I don't think they can be hurt by mere mortals.

Glock, or not, I cannot encourage the practice. Pistols are designed to return to battery with enough force to strip a tightly held cartridge from its magazine. Then, that round must be shoved up the inclined surface of a feed ramp, while at the same time its rim drags up the breechface under the spring tension of an extractor claw. Lastly, there must be enough remaining energy to ensure that the barrel is completely cammed up into its locked(battery) position. It must do this reliably, even if there is other dirt or debris clinging to the breechface or clogging up the chamber.
IMO, allowing it to slam it into battery w/o that buffering is causing needless wear & tear on your pet. :(

If you are using the slide stop lever to release the slide, you will wear out that part prematurely. Get a snap cap if you want to practice that drill.
