Anyone have these models of glocks? I am interested in these hi-cap models, but was wondering about availability, reliability, recoil and availability of hi-cap mags, both factory and after market. Also can they shoot +p loads(don't know is there is such a thing for 10mm).

Any info would be appreciated.

I had a G20 and currently have a G29 the compact 10mm. Both are great guns. The 20 is simply a big full sized gun. The 29 is a better size and can carry the hicap 20 mags although they do stick out. 20 mags are out there but are generally around $80-85. I don't believe the G18 is for sale for civilian's, at least I've never seen one.

I currently carry a G-20 for work. Like all Glock pistols realibility is excellent, Far as hicap mags go, pre - ban mags are very expensive, expect to pay = 75.00 + or more. High cap mags from Glock are an L.E. item only. Recoil on my G-20 is no harder then any 45 i've owned or shot. Glock pistols are made to shoot any loads you decide to run thru it. {ie.. factory loadings] Go for the G-20; it's a great weapon and 10mm round is excellent overall cartridge.

I have the G-17 (9mm), and love it. I bought after market Pro-mag hi-cap magazines from Cheaper Than Dirt for $30 each. Never had a failure yet with the Pro-mags-- or the Glock mags, for that matter...

BTW The G-18 is very similar to the G-17, but is select fire (Semi-auto/Full-auto). You have to have a Class-III license or be a police agency to get one. None are available to private citizens thanks to the 1984 Gun Owner Rights Bill.

Actually a Class III will not help you either on the Glock 18. These are available for purchase to LE Agencies only. The most painful thing is that they cost no more than a 17. Any in private hands are modified weapons and not actual 18s.

Own a M20 for testing - will NOT function correctly with heavy loads while stock. Going to try heavier recoil springs.

Not my (personal) cup of tea.......

Spectre,

Doesn't being a corp. only get you around the Chief LEO sign off requirement?

My understanding is that there are NO transferable Glock 18's in the U.S. Only dealer post samples which require a letter of request for demonstration from Law enforcement or govmt. agency.

That's strange Weshoot2, Is your test gun a recent model or a old used original? I have a early model 20 and have been able to shoot Winchester 175 gr. Silvertips without a problem. And that is about as close as you probably can get to +P loads in a 10mm.

The Glock 20 is a great gun! Mine has been a joy to shoot. Haven't had any problems with ammo- load it up and the 20 will spit it out rather accurately. With the reduced loads, I can fire rapid fire and maintain a nice grouping that impresses most and scares a few at the range.

The Glock 18 is unobtainable. But the 18's 32 round magazines on the other hand do look really nice protruding from the grip of my 19! You can find those for around $100.00.

I've had a G20 for about 9 years... the thing is fantastic...

so... i bought a G29 to keep it company.... Great guns.

RCH,

My pistol is a highly maintained and customized "old" model. I use it for testing ammo. Features include: ARS grip reduction, hard-fit Jarvis barrel, MMC rear/Heinie front sights, LightningStrike titanium striker, 3.5lb trigger parts.

All stock parts are installed for ammo testing.

When firing heavy loads (135g at 1700 or 200g at 1200fps) the pistol simply does not function. Hence my remark about the possibility of requiring a heavier recoil spring.

With any 'normal' loads it works fine, although accuracy with the stock barrel in place was extremely disappointing.

love my G20 and G29. great guns that will shoot almost any 10mm ammo i put through it. i won't put lead through the stock barrels. other than that, they r great guns that function great. my G20 even has a folding shoulder stock! legal in Canada! US citizens need to get the proper licence to own one.
