Just got vol.8 no1 of 'Glock Autopistols' and they feature a new locking system to deactivate it much like the Taurus Springfield etc... locks. the lock is located in the tunnel in the back of the grip and connects to the bottom of the trigger mechanism housing. the key is cylindrical at about 1.7 mm in length. The article doesnt mention when it will be installed in new pistols nor if it can be installed on older models (probably could though). Just thought Id share.

The only...

...potential upside to this is an end to the speculation on what the hollow in the backstrap is for. ;)

USP's have had 'em for a while, Steyrs were designed with them from the outset.

Personally, as long as the lock can't interfere with a gun's function when not activated and doesn't spoil a gun's aesthetics (hardly likely on a Glock ;) ), I don't see them as any different from a mechanical safety on a DA gun. Usage is completely optional; and I'd opt not to use it. ;)

I tend to agree with Tamara on this one.

In fact, Springfield's ILS system actually improves their gun, since it negates the use of plastic main spring housings, and comes instead with one made from nicely checkered steel! :D

I just want to see wear tests on these internal gun locks. I want to know if it is more likely to fail on or off.
Other than that, if it does not cost me (much) more and doesn't affect the usage of my gun, I don't care. Fortunately I have no children running around here.

The important question:

Is it removable?

I don't want anything else on my gun that is going to complicate it further.

It is just one more thing to go wrong.

Is Glock putting it on their LEO models?

My HK USPcs have an internal lock on them. When I first go the guns, I used the little "key" to turn the lock off, tossed the key back in the box, and tossed the box on a shelf. There it remains. It doesn't particularly bother me that they have the stupid lock, but I certainly don't use it -- I put my guns in my safe instead.

"Is it removable? "

If it is, you're gonna be lookin' at a big ol' hole in the backstrap.

I didn't think they could make Tupperguns uglier.

I was wrong.

I haven't seen the new Glock magazine yet. Off to the bookstore after work.

Does the key actually go into the backstrap or into the hollow part of the backstrap through the bottom of the gun?

I hope they kept with their previous modular approach to manufacturing so you can trade out the parts you don't like.
