Good evening ladies & gentlemen-

Here is what I am wanting to know. From the TFL membership, what was the earliest date
anyone can remember ever seeing their first
Glock; and second, when did you first acquire
one? As for me, I first saw a G-19 in 1988;
and acquired a G-17 in June of 1992!!! :) Where there any Glock's in this country prior
to 1985? All replies would be appreciated, as
I am trying to learn the history of the Glock!!! :D

Thanks In Advance,

Ala Dan,

this post will be of no help to you whatsoever but I will post anyway. I recall seeing a whole book on the history of the Glock somewhere, I actually think there is a couple different ones out there.

Maye someone else here can key in with the actual name of the book, it did look interesting though.

See, told you I would be no help. :) :)

1960's HK VP70Z 9mm with 18+1 rounds.

I thought most Glocks came about in the late 70's when Mattel took all those big GI Joe figures off the market and melted them down?

My Glock, I purchased used, had on the box a label that read "Voted best handgun, 1987" or something to that effect. So I'm assuming they've been in the US at least that long.

Saw my first in summer '87, when I was in the market for my first handgun. When the salesman pulled it out of the case, he said, "Now this one's a Glock - the one the liberals hate."

I think I saw the Glock 17 for the first time back in late 1985 or very early 1986. I got my first Glock (model 17) in the summer of 1986. It had the smooth grip. I got my second Glock (model 17) in 1989, third Glock (model 19) in 1993 and forth (model 26) in 2000. Today I don't have a single Glock.

It was between 84 and 86 that I first held one, but I knew about them for some unknown time before that.

I first got one 14 days from this Monday when I'm through cooling off.

Interestingly, it took a fortuitous raffle to get me into the Tupperware game.

The first Glock I saw was a Model 19, I think. It had to be about 1993 when I started spending more time with my father before he retired from the police force. Back in Illinois, they tried to make firearms a taboo subject so one didn't see alot unless it was on an officer's hip.

First mass produced Glock was the 82, so named because it was marketed that year and sold to the Austrian military. John Hollister posted this great picture at www.gunspot.com

The name was later changed from 82 to Glock 17. The Glock 17 was first imported to the US in late 1984. SOF broke the Glock story in the US, here's the classic article www.remtek.com/arms/glock/model/9/17/index.htm

I saw my first Glock 17 in a shop in early 1985. Then it wasn't imported yet by Glock Smyrna, and it came in an unusual box, sort of shaped to the pistol but with empty spaces around it like bullet holders.

The first Glock I encountered was a 17, at a gun store in Aschaffenburg Germany back in February 1986. The first Glock I purchased was a 19 back in November of 1997.

I was in the market for a semiauto in late 88 early 89, and the guy in the shop told me about the new Glocks they had just gotten. I had heard about those new 'plastic' pistols that looked like a cigarette lighter to an airport xray, but had never seen one. I of course new far too much to me messing with a gun that would melt to my side during the FL summers. Ended up buying a *&* 5906. I now own three Glocks, and wish I had more.

I bought three from RSR for $295 each. Ordered in January at the SHOT Show, they arrived in the spring. I think that was Jan 1985.
