First a little background. I am the officer in charge of a small rural station in the New Zealand Police. While technically an unarmed police force, every sworn member has to qualify with both issue pistol and rifle twice a year. As a rural station some way from any on duty back-up both myself and the other two staff here are authorised to carry in the veicle at all times when on duty.
The current issue handgun is the Glock 17, and when I transitioned from the revolver to the Glock 4 years ago, my qualification scores dropped from mid 90% to mid 80% levels. It was okay out to 15 meters, but then I started to pull occaisonal shots low and left, just enough to upset confidence. After much analysis I have realised that the Glock grip does not fill the area beteen the grip and the palm properly, allowing the gun to move in the hand, even when held tight.
Recently the three of us were gathered in the station for a regular meeting, and I mentioned the new rifle had been sighted in and was now ready for operational purposes. One of the other guys then mentioned shooting an instructors Glock at training fitted with one of the "Glock Socks" and having his shooting improve.
Has anyone any experience with these slip-on rubbers? Do they fill in the palm area of the hand better than the original grip surface?
I am seriously considering getting a couple of Glock Socks and trying them out. If there is an improvement I'll put them on our guns and to hell with the senior officers who will rant and rave about not being allowed to make modifications to issue weapons. (Beleive it or not it took 3 years to get authority to fit slings to rifles)!
Any comments?
