Glock G36 differences

I know nothing about Glocks, and have started thinking about the G36. So far I've seen they have a Gen 3 and a Gen 4.

Are there other variations of the G36? Any major differences or ones to avoid?

I tried searching, but didn't find much on the pros and cons of different versions.

They don't have a Gen 4 G36... Which means it doesn't come with interchangeable back straps and has different grip texturing.

I've been carrying a G36 for years, good little carry gun.

Thanks. I could've sworn I read Gen 4 somewhere. Maybe it was in reference to a different Glock, or just misinformation.

I'm another happy Gen 3 Glock 36 user. Everyone that's tried my gun always comments on how soft it shoots for a compact .45ACP

Love my Gen4 G21, the G36 that I tried out not as much, if I want a smaller carry gun in .45ACP that I can shoot well, I'd carry my Ruger SR1911 commander length.

There is another option.

The G30S is a G30 Short Frame (SF) with a G36 slide. The SF means fore-and-aft distance, not up-and-down distance. That changes the grip into one which fits me quite nicely. YMMV.

So you get the hand-filling comfort of a double stack magazine (9 or 10 rounds available, but can take the 13-rounder of the G21) and the slim slide of the G36. That makes the whole pistol just a little lighter in the hand compared to the regular G30.

Tomorrow I'll ease into the dark side, with 100 lead reloads through a polygonal barrel.

I found a 30 page thread about Glocks and cast bullets on another site, only read a couple of pages.

Thanks again for all the replies.

I would agree that anyone interested in the G36 should take a look at the G30S. When I bought my G36 it was a close choice between that and the standard G30. I think if the short frame with the G36 slide had been available then I might have gone with that.
