What is your opinion of the Glock G33 Gen 4 .357 Sig subcompact handgun? My friend has been after a handgun in .357 Sig and I think he has settled on this model. He'll be using it for home defense and concealed carry.

I've shot an older G33.

It has the usual Glock upsides - it's reasonably accurate, easy to use, relatively soft-shooting for the cartridge, and easy to shoot well.

The downsides are that it has pretty snappy recoil and considerable muzzle flash, and it's SERIOUSLY WHOA DANG LOUD, like full-power lightweight-bullet Magnum revolver loud. This is one of those guns that will have the other shooters at the indoor range gathering around your lane to see what you're firing, followed by looks of puzzled disbelief when they realize it's an ordinary-looking Glock. :)

I consider the recoil to be reasonable, albeit pretty snappy - IMHO if you can handle a 4" all-steel medium-frame .357 Magnum revolver like a S&W M19 or Ruger Security Six, you can handle a G33 - but like those guns, it's no pussycat, and I'd be hesitant to set one off in a confined space with no ear protection. Also, it's been my experience that some shooters perceive stout muzzle flash and noise as felt recoil, and develop a flinch. I'd recommend that your friend test-fire one, although I admit this may be difficult due to the relative lack of popularity of .357 SIG.

I have a G26 and it is a great gun. Same size, love the gun, Glocks are awesome, but would never buy a .357 SIG. If he is set on that though, the Glock compact and subcompact line of pistols are both fantastic options. Btw, I used to be a Glock hater. However, they work, they carry well, they shoot well, and they don't rust.

I have not shot a 4th gen G33. It have shot an older one. Maybe I am becoming more recoil sensetive with age. But I felt recoil was fairly pronounced. Nothing that could not be managed by an experienced pistol shooter. But more than I personally now enjoy on a regular basis.

My daily carry gun is a SIG P229 in .357 Sig (has been for a while) and I like it a lot. However in the small package of a sub compact Glocks .357 SIG is no fun.

My alternative "small" CCW piece is now a Glock 26. Which I really like and am perfectly happy with.

Regards,

Rob

I've not shot the 33 but I shot the 27 in 40 s&w... although it was a gen 3. Recoil was too snappy for me, and I literally had to readjust my grip with each shot. I shot it well though, keeping an impressive group at 15 yards.

I'm with everyone else in that I feel it's too loud and has too much snap for me too feel like it would be worth carrying over a 9mm.

I own a 26 and can comfortably shoot that thing all day... much easier to maintain a solid grip, no need to squeeze the gun to death, easier for faster shooting, and Id be less concerned about blowing my ears out if I had to use it with no ear protection. Also holds more ammo. My vote is for the 26.

I have the g32. The larger version of 357 sig and love it. The recoil wasnt too bad, i didnt noticr muzzle flash but havent shot this one too much(expensive ammo). It is ny nightstand gun.

As for ccw, ionly do single stack so its g42 for right now. The g32 or g33 grip is too fatty for my liking for ccw.

I have been very tempted by the 33. Buy a .40 barrel for it and you have an excellent subcompact with a little versatility. I have shot my brothers gen 4 G27 multiple times and found it very manageable and fun to shoot. With that said, I do agree that 9mm is a perfect match for the baby Glocks, I really enjoy my G26.

I happen to love the 357 SIG and have several Gen 4, G 33's as well as 2 of the Gen 4, G 32's.
In my opinion the 357 SIG is less snappy than the 40 S & W is. I use the Pearce plus 2 mag base plates for the G 33's giving me 12 rounds of 357 SIG, and makes the gun a perfect fit for my hands.
Yes they are quite loud. This calibers bark is as bad as it's bite...lol, but more than manageable to me. The G 33 is very accurate and easy for follow up shots as well.
Is it as much of a pussycat as the G 26 is, no it isn't, but then I shot 45 ACP for 37 yrs. I'm not recoil sensitive, but I do love my Glocks.
I must enjoy the odd ball calibers, as I love the 45 GAP rounds too. YMMV.

As always, stay safe.

I've known two people with subcompact 357's. One is a friend that carried it for a while, but he had real trouble with accuracy with it's thundering report and recoil.

The other tries one in competition and he just can't control the recoil on the beast. I keep suggesting he get a 9mm barrel for it.

Carguychris has said it as best as it can be said. I've had a G33 for over 10 years, and my feeling is the same. I carry mine quite a bit, and prefer it to any similarly-sized weapon in any other caliber, other than the Glock 26. loud as heck, but kicks less than any snubby revolver I've used.

If I was starting over, I'd buy the 26 because 9mm works well, and I get more capacity with less recoil. However, the difference is not worth it for me to trade mine away.

I owned a 33 for a while and carried it. It was a bit loud to shoot---what a hoot-----. I moved on to something else, largely because of the frame color on mine "OD Green" didn't like the color.I probably would have kept it but for the color.I now carry a black Gen 4 model 27---love the caliber, shoots nice, rides in my front pocket. I suspect I will hang on to this one. If I had kept the 33 I would have probably put a 40 barrel in it .

Id skip on a 357sig in a subcompact. Flash, blast and noise are going to be pretty bad.

A G 26 would be a better choice in my book. Plus ammo is MUCH easier to come by
