Glock frame chipped?

Hi everyone! while cleaning my G26 this weekend, I noticed a piece of the polymer had broken away from the area right in front of the takedown latch spring. There is a little piece of metal now showing where the piece came from. I compared it to my G30 and I can see the metal under the plastic from the same area as my G26. I ran 100 rounds thru the gun since I noticed the polymer missing, with no problems. I wish I could be more specific with the details, but do you guys think this is anything I should worry about? It's my carry gun so this is why I am so concerned with it. Thanks!

It's not chipped in a critical area, so I wouldn't worrry about, but if it bothers you send it back to Glock for replacement.

Popsicle,

I don't understand how this can happen to the best pistol on the market. 70% of all LEOs use this firearm. Are you sure its cracked?

No, seriously. . . I'd contact Glock about the problem. I've heard great things about their customer service.

I just looked in the glock manual. The part the polymer chipped off of is part of the frame structure, as I could find no part #. I compared it with a G27 range gun... same frame, only in .40, that had been well used and it still had the little piece of plastic coating it. As I said, I ran an additional 100 rounds through the gun with no problems. I just don't want this to develop into a problem if I should ever have to use this gun to defend mine or my families' lives. I hope it is just normal wear and tear. Howeve, I have only put 300 rounds total through this gun.

Well there's the problem! Only 300 rounds. You shouldn't see anything for at least 30,000 rounds. Even then nothing may happen. I'll bet you have the same 'chip' in the frame at 300,000 rounds...

Tamara, of course. I have broken 2 trigger reset springs in a G21 around 65,000 rounds. Still waiting for something to break on one of my 9mm's or 40S&W Glocks. And even with the broken reset spring, the gun kept running!

Here's my chain of reasoning: it shouldn't have broken in an area that didn't take any stress.
Call Glock and have them do something about it.

Popsicle,

I'm not sure if I am understanding exactly where this piece of plastic came off.

How big of a piece are we talking? Is the exposed metal part of the embedded frame rails?

I agree w/ blade67 and croyance. Glock will make it right if you choose to go that route. They will address the issue, replace or repair, and will return to you in a very short time.

What? No comments from the COG (Church of Glock) fanatics about perfection?

No, seriously, a friend's wife is a police officer here in Ohio and had a problem with a small chip (or maybe it was a crack) in her duty Glock. It was replaced very quickly, with no questions asked. Unlike some officers, she shoots pretty regularly and had a good number of rounds through it.

I suppose it could be because she was a police officer, but I get the feeling that Glock would make it good anyway. Despite the advertising, they really aren't perfect.

I'd let them know.

I had plastic chipping off my G36 frame around the rear rails. I sent the frame back to Glock, and they did replace it (took FOUR WEEKS). I did notice that the rear rails on the new frame were LONGER, and their was less plastic around them to break off. I'm sure this is a bug in this model that Glock had to make some changes in.

I'm curious...

Is the COG (Church of Glock) different somehow than the COJMB (Church of John Moses Browning), COW (Church of Walther), COS (Church of SIG; Rev. AlaDan, presiding ;) ), COHK (Those in the church of "No Compromise"), COB (Church of the 92FS)?

Just wondering. ;) :p

Yeah. There is only ONE God, and John Moses Browning is his prophet!!!!! :D

Gaston isn't dead yet, so he can't be one. ;)

I am going to contact glock tomorrow to see what they recommend. I had a gun shop look at it and they said don't worry about it if it isn't affecting your performance. However, I would like to hear it from the horses mouth. I am going to the SHOT show this weekend, and wish I could personally take it to the Glock booth to have a representative personally look at it. I'll have to investigate to see if I could possibly bring the frame in for them to look at.
