Glock Compared to Sig????

How do Glocks compare to Sig's for uniformed carry and off duty concealed carry. I'd like to get 2 pistols, one for duty use and a 2nd one with the same controls for backup/concealed carry.

Would you want a full sized duty pistol or a compact? I'm leaning toward either the G31/33 combo or the Sig 226/239 combo both in 357Sig.

Does the extra mag capacity make any difference to yoy???

I'd go with a Sig 226/229 combo instead. That way, you can standardize on 226 magazines, and use that for the 229 as well. 226/229 is double stack. 239 is single stack.

While I like Glock's, my vote would have to be cast for the
Sig's; in a P229/P239 combination. The P229 could serve
both worlds if need be; while the P239 could be used as
a primary back-up weapon. Just my opinion, for what its
worth.

I am a Glock and a Sig fan. They are both great guns with different attributes. I would shoot both either at a rental range or a friends and find out which one is best for you. The Sig has a da/sa trigger and the Glock has the safe action trigger. Both are reliable. Sigs are better looking and Glocks have a more rust resistant finish. I am sure I have not cleared things up, but you should shoot both.
I carry a department issued Beretta 96-G in uniform. When in plain clothes I carry the Glock 19, Glock 27 or Sig 228 tu-tone.

Good points. Frohickey's definitely got somethin'. I'm not exactly sure what makes me think I have the expertise to contribute, but i'll say my piece.

I do own a 226(9mm) and a G19. First, the controls are actually fairly similar. Neither pistol has a manual safety. So, its grab and pull the trigger with both. The slide stop and mag release are in about the same place. Of course, if you use the over-hand, sling-shot method to release the slide, the slide stop is a non-issue.

Second, as far as mag capacity, check out the dimensions versus capacity. The smallest sig is generally comparable in size to the midsize glock, with a significant disadvantage in mag capacity.

I dunno, just my thoughts. It might be worth considering a fullsize sig, mid/baby glock combo or the like. Heck, both sigs and glocks are great. I love both of mine. I agree that you should try as many as possible. Comments welcome...

Like your idea of staying with the same system. Glock and Sig are both highly respected guns in the Law Enforcement community and I think whichever you prefer the feel of and shoot best would suit your needs.

I favor the Glock mainly because of personal issues (it fits me better and I don't like DA/SA transition). Don't think I would start a flame war if I said Glocks had a better finish and were a little simpler but the Sigs tend to be more accurate.

I would get the SIG Sauer pistols first, then get the Glock pistols. That way I could carry whichever I was in the mood to carry.:D

I don't think finish/rust resistance is an issue with the the Sigs in 357 Sigs--they all have stainless steel slides and aluminum frames.

I have a Glock 17 and a 19, and I have a Sig P228, and soon to have a P225. I am currently looking towards the Sig P225 as my primary CCW, and the P228 as my bedside weapon, esp. with a 20 round P226 magazine inserted.
If I had the same dilema as you i'd buy the Sig P229 in .357sig, and use it for both on/off duty, and spend the extra cash on ammo and a top-of-the-line holster. Something else to consider is a SigPro 2340 in .357sig, about the same size as a P229, but lighter, and the polymer will be less trouble to maintain.

I don't know that I'd be worried about "rust resistance" with a SIG so much as getting it all beat up.

A Glock is like a squad car; if it had wheels, they'd have dog-dish hubcaps. If it gets dings and scratches and holster wear, who cares? It was already ugly. It's the parkerized M&P revolver of the 21st Century.

I don't think it's the "Wonder Pistol" some folks claim it to be; rather it's charm (or lack thereof) is in the fact that it's entirely adequate for the job at hand and completely impossible to develop an emotional attachment to.

Truely a Glock defines a workhorse pistol. A person would have to go to great lengths to make it uglier. I guess it is beautiful in its utility.
But I like a gun to be both pretty and functional. Kind of like that ideal date - smart and good looking. Unlike people, we can actually choose one that is both!

OTOH this explains Tamara's post that her Beretta is no longer her purse gun.

It's a toss up, which really boils down to whether you prefer GlockAction or SIGAction.

Personally, I prefer SIGs. Further, I prefer the compact P229 over the full-size P226, and I feel that the accuracy difference between the two is immeasurable. Plus, there will be less of a size gap between the two.

Ergo, I would use the P229 for duty use, and the P239 for concealed carry (which I do).

IF I were to choose GlockPerfection, I would select the full-size G31 for duty use, and the compact G32 for concealed carry. I am definitely not a fan of the sub-compact Glocks, so I count the G33 out. The G32 is approximately the same size as the SIG P239, and I would consider them practical equivalents.

Since I own both, I can say the following I have never had a Glock give me a catastrophic failure among the ones that I own one has over 50000 rounds (17 First generation) but one of my Sig's (226) failed when the frame rail cracked due to my having fired over 20000 rounds through that particular gun.

I currently still own several SIG's and I have no regrets, but just be aware that as the gun is shot the frame will be weakened due to the dissimilar metals. BTW, SIG replaced the gun with no problem they definitely have great customer service.

It’s also my understanding that SIG will be coming out with a steel frame version, which is being primarily marketed, to the IDPA shooting community.

You'll be well served with either combo, but a good argument for the Glock combo is the ability to use the magazines of the larger gun in the backup gun. They will also both take regular capacity magazines...the 15-rounders made for the Glock 22 will work just fine with their .357SIG pistols as well.

Has nothing to do with it, actually; traded the Border Marshal for a Springfield V-10 which I've since prettied up (a civilian CCW gun isn't exposed to half the battering and weather that a police duty gun is). ;)

My new purse carry gun is what I wanted for the job all along; a shrouded-hammer revolver that can be fired from inside the purse if necessary.
