Glock 9mm range rentals report

In the past three weeks, I have rented a G42, G43, and G26 to compare against the G19 I own. (Yeah, yeah, I know the 42 is .380). A few weeks before that I tried a G30sf (I know, 45acp). Here are some overall impressions.

G42 - too small - have to put too much finger on the trigger.

G43 - too much - too much finger buzz, too much recoil to "enjoy" shooting for anything other than a DGU (not that I would enjoy that, but you know what I mean)

G30sf - more too much - too much pinky pinch with normal mag but too tall to curl under, too much muzzle rise and recoil for good follow ups

G26 - just right? I only put 20rounds through this one, but I liked it a lot. The only "pinky under" grip I've been ok with it so far. Shot it about as well as the G19. Recoil was very slightly worse but not bad at all.

Don't get me wrong, all 4 are great pistols, very familiar coming from a G19, and I feel like I could use any of them to defend my life if I had to, but the only one I could see paying good money for would be.... The G26. (Second place would go to the G42, but fairly distant second). I just passed 2500rds in the G19 today so I'm not getting rid of it, but I could see adding a G26 at some point.

In other news, I found a real cream puff 9mm load in the Freedom Munitions 135gr RNFP. I think it shot softer than the Blazer 115gr even and much softer than the FM 124gr RN load which is one of my favorites.

I got a 42 to see what all the fuss was about. They are great shooting guns, accurate and very soft on the recoil compared to most .380's. The only problem is, it is a .380, and a single stack to boot. It convinced me that my 26's arent going anywhere and that I needn't bother with a 43.

In basically the same size package, the 26's just have more to offer.

Not trying to steer you away from Glock or anything, but you might also check out the Sig P320 subcompact if you can find one. I am usually not a fan of pinky curled under guns either, but the P320 subcompact is actually very comfortable in my hand that way. I was really surprised.

Thanks for the reviews! The Gen4 G19 is one of my faves.

I was never really that fond of Glocks because the never fit my hand right with the fat grips. Enter the Glock 43. This is now my EDC gun. This one, they got just right as a CCW.

@malice - Would love to try some P320 variants (including the 45), and P250 for that matter, but my range doesn't have any for rent.

@lee - Not sure about XDS. I'll have to see next time.

@mk - both the 42 and 43 seem too thin to me - both 19 and 26 fit my hand much better

I'm not a Glock guy either, but I found a great deal on a used Gen 4 Glock 27. I love that little gun. It feels and shoots better than a gun that size has any right to. I find the Gen 4 Glocks to fit my hand much better than the Gen 3.

I added a Lone Wolf 40-9 conversion barrel and some 9mm Glock mags, and it's been 100% reliable.

For range use, I like using Glock 19 mags with a X-Grip sleeve.
