Glock 42 goes to the match
Took my 42 to the local IDPA match. Gun is stock with Glock sights. No pinky extensions - its a BUG for me. It does disappear well in my floppy cargo pants and shorts.
The history of the gun was spotted. When new, it froze solid on the first two rounds. Took puzzling by high level experts (not kidding) at a class to unfreeze it. We were just testing it. Then I took it to the indoor range and with 100 rounds of everything, it was a jam fest. It even fired once slightly out of battery with sparks and smoke coming out of the ejection port and scaring the crap out of me.
So, it went back to the factory. On the return it went through 100 rounds of FMJ and various HP with one jam. So I thought I would give it a match run.
For a holster, I used a De Santis. Being left-handed, I found G42 holsters limited at the time. For a mag pouch, similar problems so I adjusted the tension on a double mag Galco leather 1911 pouch and a Blackhawk adjustable and they worked.
I shot WWB and Blazer aluminum for the most part, ending with one stage with Hornady XTP HP. Not one jam - happy with that! The gun knocked down steel with no problem. One hit and down.
My performance: I did not try to rush as I want to get familiar with it. I noticed that I shot to the right. Being left handed that is my typical screw up but I have pretty much mastered it with full sized Glocks or 1911s. The thinner grip gives a squirm but I was getting a handle on it. The standard Glock sights were fine for me. Old eyes - big white dot. The trigger is stiffer than my 26, 19 or 17 but not problematic.
I was slower than my usual sedate pace. I usually shoot 0,1,2s but had more 3 and 4 (to the right) but it was shaping up at the end. I did screw up a swinger. It had two targets crossing over - one was righteously hit but the other had only one hit (was it the gun or me - oh, well?).
Thus, it was a good shoot. I can shoot it reasonably well for a shorty and as well as some other folks in the squad with full size guns. Reasonable BUG or for sitting around the house, getting the mail.
I like it much better than the LCP I had. Better trigger, the recoil was trivial (LCP was an ouch), sights better (had one of the first with no sights). Easily to shoot than a J (but I do like those).
We have a short range match coming up and I'll run it again.
