Glock 41?

I had a Glock 21 that I liked fine - it had a really soft recoil, was remarkably accurate at a distance and it was a natural point-n-shoot for me.
But it was big & thick, just barely comfortable and I nearly had to point it back at myself to get a thumb on the mag release.
Wish I had gone with the SF version, I think I would have kept that.

Now the G41 has caught my eye... but I've never owned a Gen4.
I've never warmed up to the Gen4's grip texture and I'm not really a fan of guns with sizing inserts.
But, the G41 seems like a really cool gun that I might grow to like, even enough to mill for a Fastfire or similar dot?

The Gen3 21 and 21sf could also accept a wide array of aftermarket barrels, including 10mm/40s&w and would put up with 45 Super on occasion.
Are the 41's going to be that flexible?

Or should I just keep an eye out for a used 21sf on the cheap and keep stashing for a DW Valor?

The Glock 41 is my favorite 45 caliber Glock.

If you want a Glock to play all those roles instead of a dedicated 45 then just get the 21.

But the 41 has my heart for sure.

My Gen4 Glock 21 is one of my favorite pistols. It shoots the cheaper steel & aluminum cased ammo really well. I'm happiest when I can save some money shooting .45ACP, my favorite caliber.

I had a 41 for a couple months, but I went back to the 21SF.

For me, the 21SF is a better all around .45, and the 3rd gen grip suits my hands just fine.

I'd consider a Gen4 21. The 41 has different barrel dimensions compared to the 21, and I'm not talking just longer, the barrel is thinner and the whole chamber area is smaller to accommodate the thinner slide, so something like a G21 6" barrel won't work in it, it has to be G41 specific and so far no conversion barrels for it.

The grip inserts are only there for those with larger hands, I like my Gen4 Glocks without any installed, making them the same dimensions as SF Gen3 models. I like the Gen4 grip texture better, it's grippy without being overly so and the recoil assembly is better as it reduces recoil and the mag release button is larger and easier to than the Gen3 models.

The 21 is a touch heavier than a 41 because it has a thicker, heavier slide but you can get all the conversion barrels for it, plus it makes for a better setup for hotter .45's like the .45 Super. However if you're looking to keep it strictly .45 ACP with the possibility of shooting some mid range .45 Super, the G41 would still be a great choice, and with that much power you wouldn't really need conversion barrels.

I really like my 41 and I have had both the 21 second gen and 21SF and 30SF. It does recoil more than the 21 due to it being a bit lighter in the slide. However, it is very accurate and much slimmer than the 21. It carries better on the hip to me as well. I had an RO come over to me after I finished shooting it for the first time to comment on how well it grouped at 25 yards. It is a great range, trail and home defense pistol.

I would recommend the 41 for the longer sight radius and increased velocity. It also points more natural for me in the hand. If you are interested in conversion barrels than look at the 21. There is no wrong choice, I still love my 21.

I owned a 3rd Gen 21 for years and put a lot of rounds through it. When the SF frame became available I traded the Gen 3 for the SF and although I liked the grip better never really warmed up to it. That aircraft carrier slide top just bugged me so I eventually sold the SF.

When the G41 was introduced I went to take a look and liked everything about it. Particularly the balance, which reminds me more of the Government Models I carried through out my LEO career. The G41 was like going home…but with a Glock. I eventually bought one and am very pleased with it. In fact I am now convinced Glock should go the slim slide and barrel on all their 45 ACPs. I will buy a G21S if it is ever introduced and am waiting for the G30S in 4th Gen configuration. I like the texture, backstrap (no add-on please) and particularly the mag release of the Gen 4.

I would check out the Gen 4 21, you mentioned you don't like the grip inserts but you don't have to use them and I prefer it without them. Without the grip inserts a Gen 4 21 will be even smaller than a Gen 3 21 SF. As far as the Gen 4 grip texture I like it, the Gen 3 wasn't abrasive enough and IMO required either stippling or something like Talon grip tape.

My Gen4 Glock 21 shoots the cheaper steel & aluminum case factory ammo beautifully, it's set up with the large backstrap which makes a big difference in the way I shoot it.
