Glock 36

This thing is a handful, but I love it. I am curious though. The Federal Hydra shocks 165 grain seem to recoil more than the FMJ 230gr. stuff. What gives, I thought the Fed was supposed to be attenuated for recoil. Ya know, actually all the Federal ammo I have shot tends to have huge fireball and report. The best I have found is the Georgia Ammo 185gr JHP, that stuff will come close to shooting a single hole-unbelievable.

As a sidenote, I really wish they had cut this thing down just a bit in length, say to a 3 or 3.25" barrel. And why not have offered both a flush 5 round mag and an extended 10 rounder.

I don't care for the 36; just don't like the way it fits my hand. I do love my 20 though. It throws a pretty good fireball too.

I have a G30 and a G36. I carry the G36 almost all the time. It shoots well but not quite as nice as the G30. I use Golden Saber 185 gr. +P.

I didn't think the Federal P.D. recoiled that bad!! Of course, I shoot 230 G.S. and S&B 230 gr hardball. You know what really recoils out of a G36: Triton 230gr Quick Shok +P!!

Federal American Eagle handgun ammo gets a rep it doesn't deserve. Dirty, innacurate, huge flash, reminds me of Wolf.

ATeaM . . .

I have shot many thousand rounds of Federal American Eagle (in the red box) during the last years -- principally in .45 ACP, .40 S&W, and .38 Special -- and find it to be fine range ammunition. Is it possible (no offense intended) you are confusing it with American, which I agree is very poor?

Hello ATeaM,

I use the Federal American Eagle ammo in .38 Special - 158 grain RNL, 9mm - 115 and 124 grain ball, and .45 ACP - 230 grain ball.

I find this ammo to be clean-burning and accurate.

IMO, American Eagle and Speer Lawman are the two best choices of practice ammo.

I think more folks would be concerned with velocity loss in those ultra short barrel lengths. I think that the 3.78 inch barrel of the G30/36 series is about the best combination of barrel length vs concealability.

As for the 5rd magazine, I'm surprised someone hasn't come out with a short baseplate for the magazine like the 9rd mags in the G30. That would be an interesting idea although I think it would gain limited acceptance. Neither the G30 or the G36 can really qualify as a "deep cover" type pistol, so the extra inch in grip length is worth the exta round.

I'm glad you are happy with your G36! Perhaps I'll reconsider getting one again when and if Glock comes out with a "slimline" full size .45 Auto. Until then I'm perfectly content with my G30.

No, I'm talking about Federal AE. The exception was Federal 158 grn .357 high velocity which I like the best. I don't know, this is for the most part my testing 1,000's of rounds out of my .45 and 9mm. My favorites (best to worst)

1. Fiocchi
2. S&B (dirty but accurate)
3. PMP
4. Speer Lawman
5. Winchester white box
6. UMC
7. Federal AE
8. CCI Blazer
9. Wolf

That's how I rank them. Word at the range about Fiocchi is that its hot and dirty, bad for your gun. I think it's the cleanest, best ammo I've shot. Price is right too. I like their .45 the best.
