Glock 36?

I'll start by saying that I have no problems whatsoever with the 5 Glocks I own, and usually just laugh or ignore comments like: Glocks are junk cause "I" could'nt manage the trigger, or they won't work with "MY" reloads, or they fail to feed with "factory" ammo that was made in a cave near the Kabul pass.

To the point: I'm interested in a M36, but recall having seen some "legitimate" negative comments. "I" don't think that Glocks in general have inherent problems, but wonder if the M36 might have some all it's own.

Any hard facts on this? Tamara mentioned something, but I lost it. Anybody else?

Thanks, Gunzo

My wife got the first one in our area and shot it for a while with no malfunctions. She eventually sold it because in her small hands it kicked more than her G27.

A month or two back I bought a used one and have put just over 500 rounds (mostly my ball duplicate handload but about 50 Hydra-Shoks for function check). Mine has worked flawlessly. My guess is that most of the problems are operator alignment problems - bad ammo, weak grip, etc.

I've had mine for a few weeks now and have put about 300 rounds of Winchester 230 & 185 grain through it with no problems at all. The only thing i thought it needed was a longer grip. Pearce +1 mag. extensions fixed that and maybe soon some night sights will be in order.
what type of problems have you heard about the G36?

I had one. The recoil spring broke after 400-500 factory rounds.
I sold it soon after. In my opinion they are crap.

also some folks think that the 36 has more harsh recoil than the 33

john boy,

don't know about crap, but i do think that glocks would be better w/ a steel guide rod. had a 26 brake after about 2000 rds. an all steel aftermarket one just kept on lasting though.

I found the G36 to be excellent as a light, accurate, easy to conceal .45. However after about 600 rounds I started to have failures to eject every 100 rds. At 1300 rds I sent it to Glock to have them look it over. It should be back in a week or so. Hopefully the problem will be corrected.

Wrong place to ask. You know . . . GlockTalk.

I've put several hundred in testing through my range's G36. Reloads and factory. No FTF or operating issues.

BUT it snaps pretty fierce for one of the mini-Glocks. The G29 in 10mm was more pleasant to shoot. And I shoot 10mm and 44 mag often.

Its thin but with limited capacity and you can't use G21 hi caps in it which for many old school Glocksters sends the G36 a packin.

Some love, more dislike. Go look in several cases in the gun shops. For every very infrequent G30 trade-in, I've seen 4 G36s turned in. Guys slap some trijicons on them, shoot a couple hundred rounds through it, don't like the snap especially in 45 where the G30 and G21 are pussycats, and they dump them. Check it for yourself. But used G36s with night sights can be had for $475.

As I recall, there was a problem with the magazines in the earlier production G36s. Haven't seen anything at GT on them lateley but then again, these are CCW guns not range guns so people aren't going to run 1000 rounds a month through them to surface any design problems.

For the size and power you get, a G26/27/33/32/23 will give you more punch for what you have to carry.

45 ACP is a nice round a gives big holes but 9mm, 40SW, 357 sig, and 10mm offer more energy into target in a generally smaller and lighter package.

Problems, what problems!!!??? Just put another flawless 100 rounds, including 50 +P's through mine last week. The only issue for me is that I really dislike the recoil of the +P's!!!:D

I have to agree with those who have said the 36 is unpleasant to shoot compared with the 30 or 29. It is not very ergonomic and frankly it is much harder to shoot accurately than either the 29 or the 30.

Don't forget there are no pre-ban Mags for the G36 and very few aftermarket parts also (I know the aftermarkets will follow soon)

I looked at both and bought the G30. Fits my hands perfectly and I'm not a big guy.....5'08 180lbs

Gunzo . . .

I'm one of those owners (G23C and G36) that believe Glock's are less accurate -- in my hands -- than other top-quality handguns. This is NOT a knock on Glocks, but on my 1911A1 and "N" Frame Smith trained hands to truly master Glock's striker/trigger feel. All this said, if you like your other Glocks, you should like the 36; it has all the same virtues and characteristics of the entire "breed". Obviously, 6+1 is a reduced capacity, but you know that before buying.

I find my G36 adequately accurate, with typically excellent Glock reliability, durability and quality. It is also very easy to conceal and provides .45 ACP wallop -- which is the reason I carry the 36, particularly in the summer when full-size 1911A1s may be a little difficult to conceal.

I had a G36 than ran just fine. However, I thought it was horrible as a defense weapon because of the muzzlerise. At a combat course, a student flat out gave up on it in the first few hours of the course. Well known and talented instructor couldn't shoot it with authority either. There may be a few who can shoot it fast and accurate. Very few. The G30 is a little more bulky but quantum leaps ahead in every other consideration.

OTOH, if light, accurate, and easy to conceal are your criteria for CCW, it would fill the bill.

Hehe, I said the same thing about it a few months ago and was roundly attacked by those who said I was obviously a poor shooter and untrained because I wasn't accurate as I would have liked with the 36.

I have some questions about the mag design, and, hence, reliability. Of the two Glock .45s I own I prefer the Glock 30; I can think of nothing negative to say about that somewhat larger model. If you can deal with a little more heft, get the 30; it has several advantages over the 36: accuracy, recoil, capacity, reliability.

I had my Glock since Nov and have put about 500 rounds thru it,with no malfunctions. I did have a problem with one of the magazines. The mag did not fit too well and would eject with the slightest touch of the mag release. I don't carry that mag anymore and use it for the range.
I find the 36 shoots better than the 30 for me and I am 6'2/200 lbs. I think it just feels better in the hands. My dept issues the Glock 21 for uniform and 30 for plain clothes use. I considered the 30 for off duty but settled on the 36. Yeah I can't use my high capacity magazines in the 36 but seven round of .45 is enough for most situations. When I carry it off-duty I load seven in her and carry a 7 round extra mag. If I had the 30 I probably wouldn't carry a spare mag since they are bulky. I am happy with the gun and would reccomend it.

I passed by the G36 for the 30. If you hold them side by side the 30 really isn't that much bigger. The plastic guide rod assembly aside, I really can't think of one negative on the G30. You pull the trigger and it makes really big holes, period.
IMO if you want punishing recoil and 6 round capacity, buy a Taurus snub nose .357! They're a lot less expensive than a new Glock.
