Glock 36

Is anyone shooting the Glock 36 in .45 ACP? If so, please let me know what your thoughts are on the gun overall, any modifications you would suggest and the best methods you've found for concealed carry. Thanks.

Hi Steve,

Have you seen one? As much as I'd like one myself I don't think I'll get one. Unless they made a batch of frames prior to 10/98 (I don't think they came out until 99 or after), we won't be able to buy them here.

Glock 36
Attorney General's stupid regs

I traded mine in for another 1911. It had way too much muzzle rise to be effective in a wide variety of combat situations. My experience is mirrored by what I have seen in combat classes. Neither of the two shooters who shot one could do anything with it, including a well known, very talented instructor.

Some seem to like it because of its size. For the small increase in size I think the G30 is a far superior weapon. YMMV

You're right, Hoppy - I just talked with the guys at my local gun shop and they said no go on anything made after 10/98.:( At the sound of my heart breaking, the time will be 10:42... GAWD, I HATE THIS STATE!!

The joys of living in the MASSive People's Republic!!!!

I traded my G30 for a G36 recently. I like it!!! It's more accurate (for me) than my G30. Mine came stock. I added adjustable sights and installed the 3.5lb connector with the reduced power trigger spring. I carry mine either in a Galco pocket holster, Bianchi Black Widow pancake, or a Kydex IWB, depending on the social circumstances. Hey, it works for me!!! :D

I applaud Glocks resolve. Why should they alter their product just for one silly dictatorship!!!! Get rid of that goof!!!:barf:

I like the .45 ACP round a great deal; it is my clear preference in semiautomatics. Until recently, all six (four 1911A1 types, a Sig P-220, and an H&K USP Tactical) of my .45s were full size, with barrel lengths ranging from 4 to 5 inches. A few months ago I bought a Glock 36 as my “compact carry” .45.

The G36 has all the expected Glock virtues -- simplicity, ruggedness, durability, and reliability -- as well as the anticipated Glock deficiency: less than normal accuracy for me. This is not “Glock bashing”; both my G23C and my G36 are far less accurate than any of my many other handguns, due to trigger/striker feel, ergonomics, sight picture and so forth. I acknowledge that this is my problem -- not Gaston’s -- but it is a real issue for me!

The G36 will perform very much as other Glocks do for you. Further, the G36 provides 6+1 carriage, with is adequate for my circumstances. It conceals very well in good ankle, IWB, or high-rise holsters.

Despite the Glock 36's comparative inaccuracy, I like having a highly reliable, high-quality .45 ACP autoloader that is small enough to be easily concealed -- even when I dress in a business suit.

Steve,

I think you like this state the way I do, but we both hate the idiocy that surrounds us. These regulations are being fought and I've registered my complaints.

It's very interesting how Glocks can be considered unsafe under consumer regs but over 1/2 the police forces in the state are issued them.

By the way, I took a friend out shooting today. He had a great time. We went out with my .38 snub nose, Makarov, Marlin .357 lever action, and 8mm mauser. What a blast!

I have started athread over on Glocktalk concerning my impressions of the 36..
My friend has one and we decided to go shooting together, I took my 2 glocks and my ruger p-90 and he brought his G36..
Accuracy was ok. We were using Cor-bon, PMC and WWII surplus ball in .45. All rounds functioned 100% in the 36.
I did seem to notice that there was definatly some muzzle flip, but nothing too uncontrolable. The grip is different or so it seems to me at least than my G26 and G19 so it took some getting used to. Overall a pretty nice carry gun and I think you can get a extension that gives you an extra round. I still prefer my Glock 19 though ;)

I didn't like the feel of grip (long). More felt recoil than any other Glock. Accuracy and reliability was fine. If you want a glock in 45 I'd recommend the 30 if thickness is not a big issue. G30 has excellent accuracy and less felt recoil than even a .40 Glock, plus you get 10 rounds. G36 is about the same size as a G23 so if size (thickness) is an issue I'd go with the G23.

If you guys can conceal a G36 in an ankle holster or pocket holster, you definitely are bigger guys than I am! I'm 5'6, 175lbs and there is no way I can comfortably carry a G36 in a pocket or ankle holster. Even with the weight reductions and slimmer grip you are still looking at a G23 size weapon. Glock didn't bother to come out with a flush fitting 5rd magazine like they did with the G30 (9rd) so deep concealment can still be a bit harder.

I had my G36 for six months before finally getting a G30. I consider it a fine weapon for the intended purpose. I had a few minor problems with mine, but nothing major so that I would not recommend it to a potential buyer.

Good Shooting

Red . . .

Frequently carry my Glock 36 in a Fobus Tactical Ankle Holster, on the interior of my left leg. This provides excellent concealment and safety, with the marginal access common to all ankle holsters. However, I can essentially carry the G36 anywhere with no concern for being made.

I have a friend from RI who has one, I shot it recently, and fell in love with it. I would buy one in a heartbeat.
But alas I too live in taxachusetts.
And so it shall never be.
God I hate the morons who run this state. They tell us we can't have one because they are unsafe. Yet 70% of the LEO's in this state including the Boston police are issued them as their carry weapon.

Maxxx93,
In case you people from the PRM haven't figured it out yet and all of you who are from this "state" say the same thing. All of you speak of how you hate the Gun Control, I mean Safety Regs!!! The so-called "consumer safety" regs are not about consumers or safety. They are tyrannical population control by means of disarmament. You need to rise up in a mighty wave and boot these goofs out of office!!! In the meantime, if you want a G36, move to RI, or better yet move to AZ!!! We need more gun owners in this state. The climate is better here too!!!:D ;)
Can you say open carry??? How about shall issue CCW?????

My in-laws live in RI and I've discovered that that little state may well rival MA for idiotic regulations. Not to mention RI has Patches Kennedy as a state rep. He may well be the weakest load in a really bad batch...:barf: Now the thought of moving to AZ has some potential - year-round golf and more adhearence to the U.S. Constitution! Let me ask the boss what she thinks...:)
