Glock 36

Anyone who owns one have any input on it. It's getting warmer, and my wife bitched at me all afternoon yesterday because my Kimber CDP printed at the sub shop and Target. I've shot the 36 previously, both with and without, the Pearce +1 extension, and wanted to see if anyone else had feedback, good or bad.

I own a G36 and frequently carry it:

PROS:
> Very easily cancelable
> 6+1 of 200 grain Golden Saber .45 ACP -- plenty for personal defense
> Traditional Glock reliability, durability, and quality -- carry it forever with no concerns re corrosion, malfunctions, excessive ware, or marginal reliability

CONS:
> Traditional Glock accuracy -- satisfactory, but not a "tack driver" like the remainder of my handguns
> Traditional Glock striker/trigger feel -- if you like one, you'll like them all
> 3.78 inch barrel length -- adequate, but I prefer the full-size 1911A1's five-inch barrel for increased velocity
> "Safe Action" system -- fine for me, since I am revolver-oriented, but no real external safety

Mike11b... I owned one but traded it for a CDP. I had a problem with it cutting me just above the last joint in my thumb. Now of course if you don't have big hands like I do you will not have any problems, but by all means shoot it first!

I assume you already have a Glock 36. The dimensions are not smaller than a Commander sized 1911. Why not get a Kimber Pro CDP to go along with the full sized CDP you already have? You won't get your reflexes mixed up. In this case the difference in grip angles may lead to you pointing the Glock in an unexpected direction if you are under high stress.

For what it is, very acceptable accuracy from my Glock 36. No malfunctions to date with any type of ammo tested. Depending upon clothing/holster, sometimes carried with factory mag, but generally with +1 due to better grip. Readily available aftermarket "safety block" behind trigger can give peace of mind for some. Personally, safety block not inserted when using personal favorite holster for 36: Fobus roto paddle (covered by very light, fairly long windbreaker).

Mike11b:

I'm doing the same research looking at the G36, P245, and others. I rented a G36 at my local range yesterday. I liked the handling and the consistant trigger pull. It seemed plenty accurate for defensive work - 3" groups at 7-8 yards. But I had trouble with the lack of a "real" safety. I know I can use The Plug, but that's just something else to think about.

Still.... It sure was sweet! ;)

I wanna get a G36 too!

I too am looking to purchase a G36. I have heard some say they experienced pinching of the pinky finger by the grip/magazine crack.

Did any of you G36 owners experience this? If you were pinched, did adding the Pearce +1 extension stop the pinching?

My 36 has never pinched me once.

I can highly recommend it. One of my favorites (at least until I buy the next toy!):p

I agree with George. If you're printing, it isn't your gun that needs to change, it's your holster, belt or choice of covering garment.
The Glock 36 isn't any thinner in the slide or grip than the CDP, though it might be slightly shorter, so I doubt it will help you.
Your best bet is to combine a name-brand, well-made IWB strongside holster (with an FBI cant) with a thick, sturdy carry belt and a looser covering garment (go for at least one size larger than you wear). You should also be aware of bending on the side you're carrying---I know it seems like a pain, but it's simple: bend at the knees, not the waist.
If you do all these things and still print I apologize in advance.
;)

I've owned a G36 for about 6 months now. I love the way it disappears in an in-the-waistband kydex holster. I sometimes use the +1 extension, although I feel it's not necessary. Never had my fingers pinched.

With that said, I have had FTF's and stovepiping since day one with all kinds of ammo! I handed the gun to no less that three shooters and all had the same problem (it's not limp wristing). Usually around the second or third shots, especially when double tapping, the jam occurs.

I sent it to Glock about 2 weeks ago and I'm still waiting to hear from them.

I really like the G36, but depending on what Glock says and does I may trade for a G19. The G19 is 1/4 longer in height than the G36 (without the +1) and only 8/100th longer! And, the barrel is longer!! Add to the equation 15 rounds of 1300fps JHP's and I think I'm in love! The only downside is the added weight and having to get new holsters. Besides, I wouldn't mind having one of those new Glock Keys (not available on the G36)

Glock 36 vs. Glock 30

Is the Glock 36 with the +1 extension much smaller than the Glock 30? I think I'd rather have the higher capacity (9+1?) if they can be just as easily concealed.

IMHO, the +1 extension is a waste of time!!! In it's stock configuration, my G36 can be carried in all of the accepted concealed carry configurations, including ankle and pocket carry. I know, I have holsters for all, except small of the back carry. The +1 extension destroys the utility of the pistol by making it to big for pocket carry!!! Just my .02!!!!!

The G30 is more than 1/8 inch thicker at the slide! A huge difference when going inside the waistband. Also the G30 has a grip that is way too thick to conceal well IMHO. I had the pleasure of shooting one last month and found that for my hands (on the small side of medium in size) it was uncomfortable at best. Believe me, I tried to like it because I had my heart set on a 10mm version. The G36 just nestle so nicely against my waist that it just disappears under a shirt.
