Glock 36 extraction problems

Has anyone out there solved the Glock 36 intermittent extraction problem? I tried Wolff +10% mag springs per one suggestion. Better but no fix. Called Glock. They've redesigned the magazines. Returned old mags and got new ones. Not fixed. Returned the gun to Glock. They replaced the extractor and said it meets factory specs. Not fixed. It works fine with some ammo and not at all with others. Any solutions out there?

What, exactly is it doing? What does it look like after it jams, before you clear it?

Which ammo is a problem, and which is not?

Worst case scenario is that the fired case totally remains in the chamber. Apparently the extractor slips off the rim. The chamber doesn't look rough and the extractor isn't chipped. (Plus it's been replaced now and "meets factory specs") The worst ammo is American (A-MERC headstamp) 230gr ball, although it has happened with others. I know of another guy having the exact same problem and will try and find out what he's using.

The Merc ammo is known to be crapola. But it is doing it otherwise?

Have you ever fired Wolf in it? That can make the chamber sticky.

Aside from the extractor not doing its bit, something holding the casing or pulling it can also lead to that. Often the case mouth of the next round in the mag will knock the casehead off the extractor - take a look for that by slowing hand cycling and seeing if it is catching.

Check you chamber for gunk/burrs. Does a round slide in and out easily?

With the gun apart, does the breechface and extractor tend to hold a casing, or does it loosely fall out?

H, I haven't tried it with anything but Merc since it came back from Glock. It jammed on the first mag and I got disgusted and quit. It did happen before with WW white box and I think PMC but don't remember for sure. All of the problem ammo worked fine in three G21s and multiple .45s of other manufacture. Wolf ammo has never been used. The chamber doesn't look rough and the extractor will hold a case without it falling out. It does seem to have about 10/1000 more gap between the breech face and the extractor than a G21 I measured. (For whatever that's worth.) The fired case doesn't hit the top round in the mag as far as I can see.
I talked to Glock again and they said that some 36s with this problem had it solved by going back to the older non LCI extractor and spring loaded bearing. I'm working on finding a local Glock armorer for them to send the parts to, otherwise I have to ship it back to them (again).
I also corresponded with an ex-Glock employee who said that the 36s had tight chambers and 2,000 rounds will straighten it out. A slight chamber polish might be in order to speed that up a bit. He also recommended I try Federal American Eagle ammo to see how it functions so I'll have to pick some up. Will keep you posted. D

If you can find someone with headspace gauges you can rule that out. If the extractor holds the round up in the bolt face, you can shake it and it does not fall out, the extractor is OK. When it does eject, how far do the empties go? Take a look at the empties that do eject OK, and see where the ejector is striking the round. I have seen a new factory gun come with the wrong ejector in it. Just depends if it was made on a Monday or Friday :D Does it try to feed another round behind the empty? It sounds like a real head scratcher. Don't give up on it. I own several Glocks 17, 27, 30, 22C and my agency has over 1000 guns in it's inventory. They have worked flawlessly. I have limited dealings with the 36, but none of them have had this problem. Good luck

The extractor does hold a case in place with shaking. Extracted cases end up in various places. Some 6 ft out at 5 oclock, some come straight back and smack me in the head. It has an 8196-2 ejector, but I don't know if it's correct or not. It's different from the ones on a 1st generation G21 and in fact is the exact same as the ejector on a 3rd generation G20. Seems a bit odd but it could be correct. It does try to feed another round.
I did find something while closely checking the chamber today. There's a bur at the junction between the chamber and the rifling. Using a paper clip with a right angle bend on it I put the end on the rifling and pulled it toward the chamber. About 2/3 of the barrel circumference has a ridge on it that is very obvious. One of three G21s has a slight hint of a bur in one spot but the other two are smooth as can be. I can see where depending on bullet shape and obturation when fired, the bullet could dig into this bur and raise pressures. Whether it's causing the extraction problem is hard to say but it sure isn't right. Guess it's time for another call to Glock.
