Glock 34 or SIG P226?

Greetings. I work for the US Army & live in Germany. It looks like I'll be able to get one more h/g before my paperwork goes to the German Gov't for my weapons card/waffenbesitzkarte. I'm torn between a G34 and a P226. The 226 (9mm) is in stock (Rod & Gun Club) & costs $545; it looks like a G34 will run around $650. Needless to say I like them both although I haven't handled a G34. I'm kind of leaning toward the 226 since hi-caps are still available in the US for $40-50 versus the G17 mags, from what I've seen in SGNews, are running $85+. Whichever one I get - it will be fired quite a bit over the next 3-4 years. I'm sure the G34 can handle more rounds than I can afford. Has anyone had any first-hand experience with high round counts (5000+) through a 226? I'm concerned about the slide loosening up on the alu frame & chewed up frame rails/etc. Ref mags, the G34 would come with two hi-caps but they would have the Restricted markings & I couldn't take them back to CONUS. Thanks in advance...

Is the 226ST(stainless) available yet? This would solve your worry about an alloy frame. (and personally I think the added weight of the 220St over the 220 feels better). I wouldn't worry about wearing out a Sig. Your going to be happy with either gun, get which one feels better. Yes, Glock mags are getting expensive, but the 34 is a real fun gun. I like the 34 so much I've thought about getting a second one.

If My Choice, It Would Be-

the world famous Sig-Sauer P226. With out a doubt, the world's finest 9m/m; equalled only by the Sig P228.

The real answer is the one that feels the best in your hands.

The opinionated answer would be a 226. Professional organizations and military units world wide rely on Sig pistols. Can't be too wrong with that logic.

I have over 5000 rounds through my SIG Sauer P226 and the rails are just fine. The frame hasn't cracked and the slide doesn't rattle when a breeze kicks up.

The price is right on the P226, but you could do better on the 34 here in the States.

At $545, seems like a no brainer...get the Sig! The G34 is a nice gun, but for $650 I'd want more than nice & you get more than nice w/ the P226 ;)

At 5,000 rounds, the sig is almost broken in. Then again, the same same can be said for the Glock. I had a police trade in 226 that appeared to have well over 5,000 rounds. It looked like hell but functioned perfectly with superb accuracy.
And at the price you stated, you better hurry and get down there and buy it.

Another vote for the SIG. I don't know about you, but I have a hard time getting accustomed to the extreme grip angle on the Glock (it's a good gun, though).

Thanks to everyone for your input (although Kermit you hurt my feelings with the 'no brainer' comment, sniffle) - I have decided to get the P226. I do want to order a SIG replacement 9mm barrel to use as a shooter bbl in order to keep the ser #'d barrel for 'display' (and Lordy I know I'm going to take some heat for that comment). The top/barrel hood tends to get pretty scarred up on SIGs after a coupla hundred rounds. I've checked CheapernDirt and Brownell's but can't find 226 bbls - does anyone have a lead on SIG bbls? (other than SIGARMS in the US - I'm reasonably sure they won't send one to Germany - even though non-serialed bbls in the same caliber are legal.) Thanks again - Geo

In the US those prices would be reversed

Get the sig. without a doubt
It will always do what you ask of it

You can always buy the glock when you get back to the CONUS

Get the sig .I have close to 5000 rounds thru mine and it feels like it is bearly breaking in. :D
