Glock 30 vs 36

I found a used 36 in a local store and I am looking for a good CCW and thought this might be it.

Do any of you guys have a 30 and a 36? I have been left with the impression that most like the the 30 better, if so I am going to pass unless I can get a good price on it. The present price is $450 - is that high, low or average. It appears to have little use and one mag.

either are great guns but I prefer the 30 over the 36 simply for the 4 exrta rounds. The larger grip doesn't bother me at all. I got my 30 for $399 used but the 36s are probably still too new to see that price. I do think though that at $450 a 36 should at least have the 2 mags it was originally sold with.

I didn't realize two mags were the standard on a 36. When I bought my soon-to-be wife her 26, we had to buy an extra mag.

Yes Glock 30 grip is wider then the 36. I go with the 36 because it fit my hand and it's slimer, thus making it more easy to conceal then the 30. If you have big hands you might want to go with the 30. Try both of them out before picking the right one for you.

First - I don't own a Glock yet, much less either of these neat little .45s.

That being said, would you consider a Kimber Ultra Carry with 7+1 rounds of .45? I have one and it is a hair slimmer than either of these Glocks and it just might conceal better for you. Something to consider next time you pop into your local gunstore.

I think $450 is a good price with 2 mags, otherwise have him drop the price 25 dollars to purchase a new mag. They are pretty much the same price as the G30 and G21.

For a good Concealed Carry weapon, the G36 is hard to beat. I only hated that the mag pinched me when I shot the thing. If you check a G30 and G36 side by side you will find the G36 to have much more forward and lateral magazine "play" that contributes to the pinching in the 36. Some users say they never experience that problem, which is great, but it happened to me and it was a bit annoying.

I think Glock would have done much better to make their first "single stack" offering with a G23 grip size and flush fitting magazines. The fat base plate combined with the slim grip just doesn't feel that good. The smaller gripping surface is also a wasted point because Glock doesn't offer a small base plate such as the G30 does with the 9rd mags. So there really isn't any advantage of having a short grip frame. If Glock did offer one, it would drop the capacity 1rd to five rounds. I don't think many folks would feel comfortable with that.

For the record, I'm putting a G30 on layaway some time this week. I decided I wanted those 4 extra rounds plus more aftermarket accessories. I miss my G36, but my new love is just around the corner!!

I'm favorably impressed with the G36, but I like the G30 even better. The G30 grip is just about perfect for me. I use the 9-round mags, and don't mind at all the short grip that results. In fact, for concealment, I'd rather have a short grip than a thin grip.

IOW, for me personally, the G30 is hard to improve upon, and not even the G36 has succeeded in doing so. But the G36 is also a fine gun, and those who prefer it have also made a good choice.

I handled both, then bought a G30. It's quite possibly the sweetest Glock I've owned. Try to find and handle both models in a gun store before buying the G36.

Among Glocksters, the G36 is pretty much hit and miss. Not a success.

For every one used G30 I see, I see 6 used G36 with nice Trijicons on board.

Thin yes but practical for a person who likes to shoot HECK NO.

Those tiny sub 10 round mags suck.

Carry a G30 with a pair of G21 hi caps for CCW and home defense. When IWB, G30 uses 9-round mag and has the basic size of a G23/19.

Not to mention, all of GT has been raving for years about the G30's rep as being the most accurate Glock of all. It's the sight radius, the 45 bullet, and that double recoil spring assembly that combine to get many, nice sub-2" groups at 25 yards.

Skip the G36 and get the G36. That extra little bit of thinness isn't worth all you lose.

I don't know about you guys, but a CCW gun only isn't in my collection. I shoot them all a lot.

Look around at the range. What Glock 45s do you see people competing and doing serious shooting with? The G21 and G30. Hardly ever the G36.

And while we're talking, the G36 snaps as hard as my 10mm full-sized Glock. It's backstrap is so thin, it doesn't act like a double stacked Glock that absorbs the recoil.

And the jury is still out on its accuracy. Hearing more people shooting left and right or too high and low with the G36.

No thanks.

The G36 is just not versatile enough when compared to the G30.

I've handled both and I am more comfortable with the grip of the G30. The wider grip helps in the absorption of recoil.

As a side...since it was mentioned...I have a G30 and have fired 500 rds or so with 1 FTF (bad ammo I think, PMC). A shooter next to me on one range trip had a G21 and we both swapped guns for a while, but neither of use could get the G30 to work with his G21 mags. The gun would have a stoppage on the 2nd or 3rd round. Any reason why it might do this? I was under the impression that they were compatable. I am not relly interested in getting G21 mags, but am curious at the relibiality of using such.

The 30. I'm not that concerned about the extra rounds, but if I have to shoot a gun fast and accurate, there is no comparison between the two.

Well I pretty much had my mind made up on the 30 over the 36 and you guys just reaffirmed me on my decision....plus someone picked up the 36. I use to see used 30's all the time in the local dealer's shelves now I haven't see one for over a year. One of these days.............

The G30 is the sweetest handgun I have owned, perfectly fitting my hand, very acceptable and controllable recoil, and the added bonus of 10+1. Easy choice for me...my two cents...good luck on your choice.
