Glock 30 issues

Just this last weekend I purchased a Glock 30 AND a Glock 26. (My wife and I are recent recipients of TX CHL's!) We went to the shooting range that evening and shot these two polymer wonderpistols. The 26 was sweet and never even hiccuped. The bullets impacted exactly at the point of aim. Wonderous little thing. The 30 was a delight as well to shoot. Recoil was light, and the bullet holes were also right on target (one ragged hole at 7 yards and just a little bigger at 15 yards). Only problem was the 30 couldn't seem to lock the slide back when the magazine was empty. I went home and cleaned the gun and played with the empty magazines for a few minutes. I inserted the magazine and cycled the slide 25 times, only twice did the slide lock back. The other magazine was about the same. Every thing looks intact and in good order as far as the slide catch goes. Has anyone experienced this same problem? Was there a bad run of mags for the 30? Of all my Glocks I have never had a problem. I am still waiting for a call from Glock customer service.

If your G30 is used, I'd suggest that the mag spring needs replacing. You also might want to look at the configuration of the slide lock lever, to make sure that the tab that negotiates the mag follower isn't bent upwards.

If the gun is new, then it's not likely that the mag springs are bad, but the slide stop lever could be deformed.

Slide not locking is only due to weak mag springs or a worn out slide stop(not slide release). Using it as a release will do this. Doesn't matter, just find your nearest GSSF match, take your gun there, and the armorers will give you new parts, free. Personally, I only use Wolff springs.

Ditto the above. This malfunction has occurred with a couple of my Glocks (not a G30, though), due to weak mag springs--a fairly common Glock ailment, in my experience. I shipped the mags to the Glock service department, which replaced the springs at no charge. Problem solved.

If it's not the mag spring, or if the problem is not readily diagnosed, I suggest shipping the pistol and mags to Glock with a letter of explanation. In all probability, Glock will take care of the problem and the G30 will function 100%.

HTH.

The G30 is brand new. I am assuming that the springs are not bad then. However, does anyone have any info on where i can get some of the Wolff springs? Since this is my carry gun, I would like to try that before sending the gun off to Glock for 6-8 weeks (estimated time from the service department). I will take another look at the slide lock tonight.

Hi BM,

I know it's not what you want to do right now but I would still send it in. You are not going to get tighter mag springs then with your new G30. When mine was new I could barely fit that 10th round in so I don't think making it tighter will change it.

I would take the advice and go to a GSSF match in your area. Go here to see where they are. http://www.sportshooter.com/gssf/

Wolffe springs are good but I don't think they will cure your problem. I bought their guiderod and 19 lb recoil spring set and they helped with my +P shooting. http://www.gunsprings.com/1ndex.html

What about your grip? Are using a thumbs high grip? You might be pressing down on the slide lever and thus preventing it from locking open.

Grip is definitely not the issue since it won't lock back when I am trying to get it to. I have to physically push the slide stop up.
