Glock 29 Opinions

Was just down at my local gun store and saw a used Glock 29 in 40 caliber sitting on the shelf. Three magazines and night sights for $550. It definitely looks like it would be a handfull, but I kind of liked the size of it and it feels good in my hand. I know all the stories about Glocks, but does anybody have any idea how well these sub glocks hold up under use. I shoot all of my guns a lot and would plan on putting a couple thousand rounds of semi-hot loads through it. Aside from that I have know way of knowing how much it's already been shot, though it feels tight and well cared for.

The Glock 29 is not a .40, but a 10mm. It's a great gun...I just got one for CCW myself, it replaced my G23C. It has the best horsepower-to-weight ratio of all Glocks, and the recoil is not that bad at all, even with full-house loads. It's probably the most powerful compact/subcompact CCW gun on the market. Hard to beat eleven rounds of 10mm Auto in a package only slightly bigger than a Glock 26. As an added bonus, you can use the pre-ban 15-round magazines from the Glock 20 for some truly awesome firepower. A&G makes grip extenders that will fill the empty space when you use the long mag with the short gun.

The G29, like all Glocks, is tough as nails. As someone posted once, buying a used Glock is like buying a used brick. Go for it, you won't find a more powerful or reliable subcompact carry gun.

I just got a Glock 29, and I give it big "two thumbs up." I got mine for $525.30 with factory night sights (Trijicons), and it was NIB.

Friend of mine has a Glock 29 and I have shot it quite a bit. It's a great little gun, a handful of power, but not uncontrollable by any means. In fact, it is more accurate and controllable than the Glock 36.

The 29 is a .40 caliber. The 10mm is a longer case than the .40 S&W but they use the same bullets so that makes it a .40 magnum, right? :D (would that make the .40 S&W a 10mm short? :p) The .40 S&W is spec'd for a .4005" bullet while the 10mm calls for a .400" bullet.

Buy it. Thats what I paid but I got regular sights and only 2 mags.

Check the ejector. If, when viewed above, its a straight piece of metal with the number 4340 on it, its the wrong one (for somereason G. shipped alot of these and reliability is marginal with the straight ejector in some pistols). The replacment, number 8196-1, has an obvious dog leg bend in it (looks like a sharks tooth). May be able to negotiate a few bucks there. May also be the reason someone is turning it in. The replacment part is free from glock and 6-8 bucks from LoneWolf/Glockmeister. Takes three minutes to change.

The 29 is a very fortunate combination of desireable features. Enough grip to control without sacrificing concealability. Full use of the 10-round limit. Major (very) caliber. Wide range of bullet weights. Accurate and reliable. Rust proof.

I also like the fact that its powerful enough and enough of a handfull to challange me and force me to be a better shooter. Its controlable but it wont let you get sloppy and it will reward better technique.

Bullwinkle is correct, check the ejector. I bought a new G29 earlier this year, and had to replace the ejector. Other than that, it's been a great gun - I have a Sidearmor IWB holster with it.

Shoulda been more specific. :) Of course, the .40 is a 10mm in terms of diameter. I should have phrased that sentence: "The Glock 29 is not a .40 S&W, but a 10mm Auto."

(It pains me to spell out *&* fully, but it's still the name of the cartridge.)

Many folks "in the know" really like the G29. Ask Tamara about it, and she'll laud her favorite Glock for at least three paragraphs. She steered me towards the 10mm and the G29 in particular, I wouldn't have ended up with one without her incessant promoting of the uber-Glock, mainly because you really have to look for G29s. It is, for lack of a better term, a brutal little gun. Chunky, short, extremely powerful, yet pleasantly mild-mannered at the range.

Have we made you a believer yet? If not, let me know, and I'll scoot over to GlockTalk and get a few more G29 owners in here. :)

The G29 has the same frame size as the G30. It is shorter and less high than the G23 (although not by much), but it is a bit thicker.

anytime you want to head out to Guncraft, give me a shout. I'm always more than eager to put a few rounds through my carry guns. I'm usually in Atlanta on the weekends, but on the weeknights I'm "cocked, locked, and ready to rock, doc." (Sorry, Nuge.)
What did you get lately that is worth trying out? I am down to three pistols, as I really wanted to get the Benelli Nova, but they're a choice little bunch: Glock 29, Glock 26 and Colt M1911A1.

I suppose I made a mistake. They have a new 29 in 10mm right beside the 40 S&W I was looking at and I thought they were calling it a 29 too. What is the model designation of the 40 S&W? If it's still there I think I will go put it on lay away tonight after class is over.

The full-size .40 S&W is the Glock 22. The compact one is the Glock 23, and the subcompact is the Glock 27.

The Glock 29 is between the G23 and G27 in size, although it's much closer to the G23 and a bit wider in the slide.
