Glock 29 opinions

I'm looking for a small carry pistol and prefer .40S&W or .45ACP. I looked over a Glock 29, .40 today. Quite compact and concealable, and spare mags are also easily stashed abot one's person. Anyone have experience with this pistol, good or bad?
I don't have a grand to spend, but I'm not wedded to Glock.

Glock 29 is 10mm Auto, not .40. I really love mine; it's my favorite CCW Glock. A lot of *bang!* in a very compact package.

Check out the Glock 36 it's the slimmest mini glock and it's in .45acp. I want one, but I'm not sure how well the thin design will hold up.

Kahr makes nice mini autos in 9mm and .40 caliber. They also offer light wt. polymer frame models. Kel Tecs are the smallest 9mm autos but they don't have the best track history. I'd go with a Kahr or a Glock.

I'm the proud new owner of a G29 and so far, after only 50 rounds, I really like it. I did hear a rumor about some G29s developing a crack in the frame in the dust cover. Anyone have info about the cause or prevalence of this problem?

Tamara?

That's referring to a small run of G29/G30's with a longitudinal split in the dustcover between where the serial number plate is pressed in and the forward edge of the dust cover. More annoying than anything else, and unless your G29/G30 is an older one, unlikely to affect you.

(The "dustcover", as its' name implies, is not really a very structurally important part of the pistol; you could saw the portion of the frame forward of the rails completely off the gun and it would affect function not a whit. This is a small split on the mold line on the pistols in question. Like the frame-cracking early Delta Elites, however, it has gained immortal life on the World Wide Web as new folks hear it and pass it along.)

I have a 36 which holds 6 45 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. They have a "problem" with the magazines. If you look at one and face it towards you there is a bare metal corner on the top right. Mine have lightly peeling plastic from the areas this contacts on the front of the mag. I trimmed the peeling, and no more peeling or other problems. Some consider this awful, I have four mags and two do it and two do not. It does not affect anything except looks, and glock will fix their mags if you send it to them.

Several hundred rounds and no problems.

I also just got a 29 off a friend who decided he prefered the 9mm I had. It is 10mm as mentioned and a nice gun.

The 40 *&* chamberings are on a smaller scale gun. I have used most all the sizes available and have to say get whatever fits your hands the best. The magazines are easy to conceal for most, just skip the 30 round 40 *&* mags from scherer.

I consider my glocks a nice simple gun that I never worry about the finish on. I have had great luck with them as my only problem is the mags above and I consider that a non-problem.

Pick a round and a size model you want and go from there.

Can't seem to get my 29 to work real well even after a trip to Smyrna :(. Others have had better luck with theirs I'm sure. Cool concept though.

Was failure to eject. Smyrna fixed that but now I have feed problems and premature slide lock. No my thumb is not hitting the slide stop.

AndABeer,

I mean this in the most respectful way, but when you have a Glock 29 and a SIG P-220, both pistols known for extreme reliability, choking on you in an identical fashion, then it might be time to examine your technique, dude.

ah but they are not choking in an identical fashion, or rather they weren't before the 29s trip back to the factory,

29- approx once every magazine, empty case stuck firmly under the extractor, slide returns forward and the mouth of the case gets stuck on the hood of the barrel, to clear it, had to lock the slide back and pry the spent case from the extractor

220- empty case is getting extracted but not being thrown clear of the port, case is getting stuck in reverse presentation between the hood and the breach face

29 was fixed by Smyrna of that particular problem (300 rounds since return and no stuck cases) so I doubt I was the cause.

I recently purchased a G29. I am not a Glock fan, BTW but I needed what it had (light weight, high power, and smallish size). I put about 40 rounds through it yesterday, and I have to begrudgingly say that I loved it. I think I have one of the series that had the crack, so I'll be on gaurd for that, but so far I'm very happy with the Piece. Now I really need some 10mm dies.

Since you're not wedded to Glocks, give the kahr line a serious look over.

They offer levels of concealment unavailable in the mini-Glocks.

(Not that mini-Glocks cannot readily be concealed by most folks.)

If I were to just keep one pistol for carry, it would be my Glock 29. I run a gun rescue service, though, so if you need me to '"rescue" your G 29, contact me off list and I will arrange it!:D

if you reload, the 10mm is the round to shoot

or if you can commit to shooting at least two boxes a week, it's fine

like the g29 for ccw

no double tap needed

glass - no problem

300 pound guy on drugs with a leather jacket in his car, grab your fmj and no problem

but if you're not a dr phil kind of i like recoil kind of guy, you'll sell it in a year.

love my g20.
