Glock 27 vs HKc40 vs Beretta Cougar 8040

I am considering a compact to midsize .40 S&W. Most curious on comparison of Beretta 8040 to HK compact USP .40.

MTAA -
Can't say much about the HKC40 (I have held and briefly shot one - but that's all). I currently own a Beretta Mini-Cougar 8040F and have shot it side by side at my range several times with the Glock 27. Physically they are similar. Just looking at them the Beretta seems bigger - but comparing the spec numbers not by that much. The Beretta, IMHO, is easier to shoot and control. Though I will it admit that I shoot the Glock almost as well - I just have to concentrate a little more to control the muzzle flip and double taps are harder. In the end the Beretta just "feels" right for me. As for CCW, the Beretta is my main gun - carried in a Rosen ARG-Slim (expensive and long wait, but by far the easiest wearing rig I own) all day with no discomfort. In short you can't go wrong with any of the three, all are quality guns from respected manufacturers. Try to rent all three and see which one "feels" right for you.

Cheers - Chuck

I have a Glock 23(compact but full grip) and a USP40C. The USP has about 5-6 oz more in weight and IMHO handles the recoil of the 40 cartridge better, even though the bore axis of the Glock is lower. I would imagine the difference would be even more pronounced when comparing the 40C to the G27. I have only held an 8040 in my hand so I can't talk about it except to say it fills the hand nicely and but because of that it is harder to carry concealed. I like my USP40C a lot and shoot it almost exclusively in IDPA.

I have owned a Glock 27 since mid-summer of
1996. I truly find this little gem amazing.
Accuracy (50ft.) is great; and the recoil
is manageable. :)

I have shot the Glock 27 and like it a lot, maybe I shouldn't have included it. I am more curious to hear comparisons of the Beretta 8040 and the USPc .40.

I have no experience with two of your candidates but I have a lot of respect for the Glock 27. I have never cared for the feel of a H&K and I find their operation complex compared to Glocks. I am honest when I say that I have never had an oportunity to fire a Beretta 8040.

The Glock 27 is a little pistol that can do it all. It shoots beyond what its abilities should allow. With a Glock 27 you can use a Model 23 barrel, a 357 Sig barrel, I am not sure about 9mm barrels (I haven't tried it), and you can buy an A&G grip adapter and use it with Model 23 magazines.

If you try the A&G adapter you will swear you are shooting a Model 23. I do not find the Glock 27's recoil bad. Now when you get to shooting 357 Sig in a Model 27, with a 357 Sig barrel it will get your attention.

Richard.
