I must have read the same "glowing report" because it figured in on my purchase of the PT-111. I am not about to say that the PT-111 is better than a Glock or anything else for that matter.
Would I purchase it all over again?
Gun feels good in my hand and when firing.
Small, fairly easy to conceal, 18.7 oz - It's light, recoil NOT a problem.
I am VERY (surprisingly) accurate with it. (Trigger pull NOT a problem for me.)
Only 350 rounds but NO misfires or misfeeds after a shot.
I think it is VERY easy and simple to field strip.
Good sights. Has integral lock with 2 keys so you can disable it if necessary (kids around, etc.)
Manual safety if you want an extra measure of safety while carrying one in the chamber.
Got mine for $329 w/SS Slide.
Hey, who could POSSIBLY ask for a better gun?
OK... before the Glock fans come looking for me, here is the downside.....
As posted elsewhere I have had problems with the first round jamming when I tried to load it. At first I was hanging on to the slide when it went forward. I found that simply releasing the slide from a locked position seemed to take care of that problem.... but I still had the occasion jam when trying to load Speer Gold Dot. I had the dealer look at it where it fed fine for him. He told me I needed to pull the slide ALL the way back and let go. Since then NO MORE JAMS when loading. (However, I have not bought anymore Gold Dot ammo to really be sure. Winclean and Hydra-Shok load perfectly.)
As for breaking it down, that was a problem for me too. The instruction manual left out a small (but important) detail.
While reassembling, when pulling the slide back to lock it, you MUST push down on the top of the slide. If you don't, the barrel slides back too far and you will have a hard time getting it back. (I DID!)
As long as you remember to do that, the gun can be disassembled and reassembled very quickly (less than 60 seconds anyway.) This is the first semi-auto that I've owned and it seems VERY easy to take apart and reassemble.
I'd like to make 2 final comments.
1. I really like the PT-111. I am CONFIDENT that if I need it, I WILL get off at least 11 rounds of 9mm Ammo. It is small and light and ACCURATE!
2. As mentioned elsewhere on this board... DO NOT let price choose your gun for you. If my PT-111 disappeared, I would likely spend more money next time. -But that is ONLY due to the load problem (which might be mostly me). I do not regret buying it as I planned on buying 2 or 3 before I found one I REALLY liked.
I think the Taurus makes a good CCW gun. But if you find something you like better, don't let price hold you back.
