Glock 26 vs. Khar P9?

At the risk of asking a question that's been answered a million times:

I am looking for a CCW, probably in a 9mm & am considering a G26 or a Kahr P9. I'd like any opinions that might help me choose between these two guns.

Let me also say this: I have fired both, but only 10 rounds through each, and I am torn. Is the narrow frame of the Kahr an advantage or disadvantage. Seems it would be easier to conceal (lot shorts and t-shirt weather around here). The kahr also bounced a couple of empties off my forehead, though not as many as the P40. Maybe that's not too big a deal, but it could certainly get annoying. I also noticed that the trigger popped my trigger finger a little on the recoil. I still like the Kahr. But I can't really think of anything bad to say about the Glock, except that I wonder if the thicker glock will be harder to conceal. OTOH, the Glock has a shorter grip, which may be more of an issue when it comes to concealment than the thickness.

I am not set on one of these two, and would like to hear other suggestions as well, though I have shot the Kel-tec 9mm and did not like it. I'm not necessarily set on 9mm either. I thouhgt I liked the 40, but when I shot the P40 and G27, I decided that may not be the way to go in a small gun. It was certainly managable, but I want a gun I can enjoy taking out the range and shooting, & I don't think I would with those.

You can't go wrong with either.

MK9 Advantages:

Really small and thin.
Reliable.
Accurate.
Great trigger.

Disadvantages:

Heavy for it's size.
6+1 capacity.

G26 Advantages:

Reliable.
Accurate.
10+1 capacity.

Disadvantages:

A chunky guy.
Some people don't like Glock triggers.

I have an MK9 and feel it is an advantage over the G26 because it is smaller.

However, when possible I carry a G19 with 15+1 rounds.

I won't even go there regarding .9mm versus .40cal. Already enough discussions on that subject! I like the .9mm.

I really love my Kahr P9. It just feels good in my hand. I have small hands and the Kahr just fits better than the Glocks. I can conceal the Kahr better and have added an Agrip so it handles better. I wear bifocials so I put Ashley sights on it too.

Both are fine weapons and you can't go wrong with either one. I think it just comes down to a personal choice. Maybe you should go back to the range and fire a few more rounds before you decide.

I tried both the Glock 26 and Kahr K9, but I ended up choosing the SIG P239 as my CCW. It's a little bigger and heavier than the other guns, but I found that the weight makes it more controllable when shooting. It's also fairly thin (8+1 round single stack) which makes concealing it easier.

I liked the G26 except for the grip, which was too short to hold with 3 fingers and a little fat for a CCW. The Kahr probably would have been my choice after the SIG, though I would've gone with the K9 (all metal) instead of the P9. All these options are excellent, so pick one and be happy with it. :)

I looked long and hard at the Glock 27 to replace my P40... I rented the Glock, shot 50 rounds through each, and then thought some more.

What I found was that the two were about the same for me in accuracy. I liked the feel of the Kahr better because of the longer grip.

As for concealability, I have found that, for me, the slimmer Kahr did conceal better than the shorter Glock. I am fortunate enough to have a great gunshop to go to, who let me try different IWB positions with their Glock and my Kahr, and it was no contest. Although shorter, the fatter grip poked at my T-shirt, where the Kahr did not.

I do like the Glock trigger reset MUCH better, but I like the Kahr trigger pull every bit as much. Wierd, huh?

See if your shop will be as accomodating, and if you like the feel of both, and can shoot both well, then find out which one conceals better on you.

Good luck.

PS - I kept my Kahr.

I like both and have carried both as a BUG. I have nothing bad to say about the G26. I have very little bad to say about the Kahr, but here it is:
for me the Kahrs grip was too skinny and I had to put on a Hogue Handall Jr to be able to shoot it well. When shooting it, if I am not careful, my thumb will either engage the slide stop or eject the magazine prematurely depending on whether it is too high or too low. There is a very small area where I have to keep my thumb of my right hand unless I wrap it around the outside of my support hand. I can shoot both well but I would have to give the edge in reliablity to the Glock for the above reasons as well as a couple initial feeding problems with the Kahr which have disappeared of late. I'd pick which ever felt better in my hand.

I carry a G27 every day, yes it is thick (not as bad as some make it sound)but certainly thicker than the Kahr. But the fact that you get either 9+1 of .40 in the 27 or 10+1 of 9mm in teh 26 is a big factor to me.

Thats a bunch of firepower in a little package. And I am sure I dont need to tell you all the other good stuff that Glocks are known for.

‘preciate the input. Still haven’t decided, but I really wanted to like the Kahr, and I do. But if I’m totally honest with myself, I think I enjoyed shooting the glock a little more. No real reason that I can put my finger on. I also hear you can use a G19 mag in the 26, with a little sleeve. That’s sounds attractive to give the gun a little more grip for plinking at the range.

BUT, the primary purpose here is CC, and I live in Texas with lots o’ days on the warm side. So the question becomes: Is the concealability of the Kahr worth the trade off, considering that my apparent preference or the glock is only a slight one.

So, do any of you carry a 26 or 27 in shorts and t-shirt weather? How do you carry? IWB? Do you find it a problem to conceal on those days?

Haven’t thought about asking the shop if they’d mind letting me try in an IWB holster. Think I’ll give that a shot. Thanks for the tip Onslaught. While I’m there I think I’ll put a box of rounds through the two of them and see what happens.

Maybe I’ll even come home with a gun. :D

Hello. I don't carry in shorts and a t-shirt, but do carry in "long pants" and a t-shirt. I've had no problem at all carrying my G26 in a Galco pocket holster in docker-type pants. None.

Best.

My G-26 is Very,very reliable.
Have had a few, not many but a few, stove pipes and fail to go to battery with the p-9.
Love the trigger reset with the 26:D .

Bax94,

Living here in Boston you better bet I wear my 27 with shorts and a T-shirt. There simply is no other option for me.

The Kahr is smaller but not by a huge margin, the 26 & 27 are more than enough for a comfoprtable CCW. If this will help you see the picture a little better, before I bought my 27 I was carrying a G23 (compact) wich is the next size up from the Sub Compacts. With the 23 I was still able to carry with shorts and a T as long as the shirt was not see through.

The Kahr and the 26 & 27 give you a good package for IWB carry, much more than their big brothers the 23 & 19. This has worked the best for me. The 27 IWB has turned out to be the best thing since sliced bread as far as a pleasurable carry peice. Also I am sure that the same could be said for teh Kahr.

Also if you are considering the 26 I strongly suggest you take a look at the 27 and 33. Yes, at this point you may not want anything larger than 9mm. But. With the 27 & 33 you have the option at any time to just buy a drop in after market barrel for any of the other calibers. That is a big plus, haveing good options is a great thing. With my 27 chambered in .40 I ended up doing this. When the .357sig hit the stands and everyone was squabling about it I wanted to see what the fuss was about. Well, I was very skeptical about it being so new that I was not about to buy a whole gun chambered in the round. So I just bought a Federal .357 drop in barrel for $70 and that was that. All that and I was able to use my .40 magazines for the .357sig.

Back on topic as to helping with your choice. Honestly I am a little bias when it comes to the G word. I own many of them and consider them the best bang for the buck. It is very rare for a Glock to fail and I love that. Both of the guns you mentioned are going to be great CCW guns. They are both very different also. The difference in IWB carry will not be very extreme. See what you shoot the best and take it from there.

If by chance you do decide on the Glock I recomend a Sidearmor IWB holster. This was the first IWB holster that I found I could carry for the full length of the day without haveing it bother me. Over at Glock Talk you will see how many people rave about them, hey are quality and Patricia the owner os the sweetest person to deal with.

Good luck again in your search.

Bax, I was in your same dilemma, only I went the long hard way. First, I got a P9 just on passion. Never a problem. The slide stop felt way bigger just handling the gun at home, but dissappeared at the range, it didn't bother me and I didn't even notice it. I traded it. Since, I acquired a Glock 26. I chose the 26 because of all the accessories available, it is easy to totally strip. I chose the 9mm and am happy. Like you, I like to enjoy my range sessions. Frankly, with the .40 I don't. The 9mm is much cheaper also. Glock is probably going to come out with a single stack slimline something, when? I think Kahr is also toying with the idea of a polymer MK9. Best of luck

Big differences.

Kahr's trigger pull is DAO and very long.

And they don't make anything in 45 ACP, 10mm, or 357 Sig.

For accessories and proven durability, Glock.

I liked my old E9 but traded it for the G26.

And I don't support cults.

They`re both really good choices, I`ve shot both and did well if not great with both of them. I particularly liked the grip feel and sights of the Kahr. Personally I like a nice thin carry gun. I`ve concealed chunky guns like a Sigma 40V, and a Ruger P-97 .45 in good IWB holsters even with shorts and a T shirt. They don`t print on me (I`m a pretty big guy) but they re not that comfy. I carry a full sized CZ-75 quite a bit and it works great for me because it`s very slim but my 10mm Witness feels much bulkier even though it`s only 1mm thicker. Basically a little bit can make a big difference! The P-9 is quite a bit thinner than a G26,they`re thinner than my Keltec too. I`d go with the P-9 and an ultra thin kydex IWB holster from FIST. I tried one (the belt clip model) with a relatives K-9 Elite and it was awesome,it held the gun securely but it was so trim it was like carrying the gun mexican style. It felt very much like carrying my Keltec IWB with it`s belt clip. The holster was well made and the clip worked great (and I generally hate clip holsters). With this setup you could actually forget you`re wearing it! If you decide on the G-26 I`d recomend this holster even more strongly to offset the extra thickness of the gun. Marcus
