Glock 26 or Glock 27?

I'm trying to decide between a 26 and a 27 for my carry gun because my Walther P99 is just too big. I lean toward the 27 because my P99 is .40 cal, and my wife's HK is .40 cal., so I have plenty of .40 cal ammo.

However, I've heard that the recoil of the .40 makes it rather difficult to shoot, especially for double-taps.

Any help would be appreciated.

I have the G27 and while the recoil is more than the 9mm it is not all that unpleasant. Try renting one at a range and shoot it before you buy it.

I will second Jeff's opinion. I have a model 27 and I really like it. It has more recoil than a 9mm, but it is easy to handle once you get used to it (firm grip), and it is fairly accurate. I like mine, and I like being able to carry a .40 caliber in the smaller package with 9+1 capacity. It's great for walking around the city at night with an light jacket or fannypack, but I do not think it is that comfortable for in the waistband carry. But I truly like it, and have no plans to sell it. That being said, I am also considering a Taurus Titanium .38 special. The Glock is easier to conceal than, oh say a 1911, but it is somewhat.... blocky.... and I am finding it difficult to carry effectively in "polite company" (read that as god d*mned liberal state) now that the warmer weather is approaching in sunny ole masschusetts.

Oh, by the way, don't forget the added convenience of only needing to have one type of ammo handy for both your walther and your glock...?

This is very true!!!
I own two 9mm Glocks and a 9mm Kahr MK9. I looked at the G27 (tough to get in thisarea of PA right now. But, I really don't want another caliber. Reckon it'll be the 26 for me (which does fit nicely in a trouser pocket!)

Great gun - just try it for recoil
sensitivity.

I have a 26 and had 27. I traded it for reasons that had nothing to do with the gun.

Shot a 250 on the TX DPS test with it -
not that the test is that hard.

Own both a G26 and G27. Both shoot well. Like them both a lot. The '27 does have more recoil than the '26 - but, as has been noted here, not a lot more. But, for what it is worth, I carry the G26 on a daily basis. Why? Just pure personal preference - nothing more.

I have a night sight Glock 27, two magazines with Peace extensions, and one 23 magazine with an A&G adapter. I am of the opinion that this little pistol thinks it can do it all. With what I have seen I can't argue with it. I am not recoil sensitive and shooting a lot of ammo through the 27 doesn't bother me. Regards, Richard.

I bought the Glock 26 because of the 9mm. I have been shooting 9's for years and just have so much brass and ammo for them I didn't want to start over with the .40 . In your case go with the 27, theres a lot to be said for ammo compatability and the recoil isn't that much worse.
Good Luck

250 is a perfect score, Jeff.
50X5.

When you took it, they must have curved it.

:)

Still an easy test - unless you load the rounds in backwards in the mag as I saw one person do.

I feel like a fool for only scoring 249 with my Glock 30 in the TX test. In the G30's defense, I'll wager Glenn is a way better shot than I am :)

I suspect most people could pass it blindfolded :) :).

Battler.

I even shot a 250 when I shot it a second time left handed with my Kahr MK9. Wasn't sure I could do it so it didn't count, but it was nice to know I made it. Not a very hard test.

Pipper:

I am a completely loyal 27 fan and can honestly say that firing the 27 accurately and quickly does not pose a personal problem in my case. IMHO your grip and your stance make all the difference in controlling the 27.

While it does offer more recoil than the 26 it is certainly not prohibitive. My own is set up with a Wolff guide rod and 20# spring. I could tell a noticeable difference between this set up and the stock one. I have over 700 rds through my own 27, yes it is still quite new, and have not experienced any malfunctions. Double taps are not a problem.

I think your thinking on the compatability with the HK is correct. My other carry weapon is the USP40C. I would choose the 27.

Good luck

Many thanks for all of your replies. I believe that I will go with the 27: I've got lots of .40 ammo, and I like the extra power of the .40.

Now I just have to wait for the next gun show in Ft. Worth.

I shot a 249 the first time through, when I said to myself - my this is an easy test
and proceded to put the next round just below
the edge of the ring in center line.

Fah! Since I had a 2 year one first, I had to take it again when it ran out.

The weird thing was the first time as I shot the 249, some guy comes up to me and says I shot too good. He said he was a police
marksperson and I should have deliberate
muffed some. Why - because if I went to trial, I would be asked why I didn't wound him.

Weird advice and counter to most training.

I was skeptikal about the G27 recoil thing as well. Mostly from reading posts and from reading the 1999 Glock Magazine.

I got it because I like the .40S&W round.

After shooting it I realized that the recoil is really nothing at all and that over time, it will be less.

Don't worry about it...

I have a 27 and a CCW. I find it quite comfortable to carry in the waistband of my pants, no holster. Most of the time I have a grip extention on my mag in the gun. It makes the feel similar to the 23. Anyway, as long as i am not slouching back on the couch, I often forget the gun is in my waistband of the blue jeans. Recoil might be a little more than the 9, but it ain't bad. You will not be disappointed with the 27. Anyone know where to get these wolf springs from? Should i get some? What else have any of yall done to your 27's?

Glen:

My instructor would only give pass/fail results. The instructor said high scores work against you (why didn't you shoot him in the leg?). Also, that low scores would work against you (why were you carrying a gun if you are such a lousy shot?).
