Glock 26 Experiences?

I'm looking for a light, compact pistol for CCW, and have just about given up on my "reliability challenged" Kahr P9, which is back at the factory yet again. :( (Long story. Search my prior posts.) So now I'm looking for something to replace it.

I usually carry a BHP, but have to be careful how I dress in hot weather to maintain concealment . . . and, the BHP being all steel, I worry about corrosion when I sweat in summer. Glocks are well thought of - I've got a G17 that works well - so I'm considering a G26. Lighter, shorter, and if it's a bit thicker than the P9, I suppose I can live with that, as long as it works well.

So...does YOUR G26 work well, or does it have some idiosyncracies that interfere with reliability?

My or rather my wife's G26 works great!! In fact, I just ordered her two more mags!! This gun is kept in her purse, so there is no problem with concealment. When I carried it, I used an IWB holster. It worked well too. As far as reliability is concerned, forget about it, this gun will shoot the same now, and 200 years from now!!! My advice is: GO FOR IT!!!:D

My Glock 26 is a little gem. I've NEVER had a malfunction with it, and I find it very easy to plink beer cans out to 18 yards. Its accurate for a small gun. Recoil is so mild too.

Hello, HankB. My favorite firearms are BHPs and 1911s with CZ75s in the mix as well, but my "always" gun is a Glock 26 loaded with Triton 125 gr "HiVel" +P JHPs. This little gem has never malfunctioned in over a thousand rounds of ball, commercial defensive JHP ammunition both standard and +P, as well as some rather stiff handloads.

For a carry gun, it meets my needs and I've been well satisfied. Somehow, it does not seem as ugly as it once did.

It's also done a Texas summer in pocket carry using a Galco pocket holster with no ill effects.

Best.

Never a single problem related to reliability, no matter what brand of ammo, FMJ or JHP it works. G26s are also very accurate, up to 21 feet I've seen them go toe to toe with G19, G17, and a P228.

There's a cosmetic thing about the G26/27/33 that doesn't affect reliability, but that you should know about, so it won't freak you out if it happens on your G26. Sometimes the guide rod mars the inside of the frame. Some of the maring is normal and some happens because people reassemble the pistol incorrectly. If you're thinking of getting a used G26/27/33 make sure to check out this cosmetic problem. It doesn't affect reliability or accuracy at all. :D There's a really good picture on this thread http://glocktalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=42695

Have a Glock 26. Carry it in a Galco Royal Guard IWB most of the time. Goes bang each and every time I pull the trigger. What else do you need to know?

HankB,

I have a G26 for ankle carry in a Renegade holster. I find it ideal for this situation.

Here is what I like about the G26:
- Very compact and light.
- Very comfortable to shoot with FULL POWER ammo.
- The barrel is very low with respect to the hand so muzzle flip is minimal.
- EXTREMELY accurate! I cannot say the barrel or slide is accurate or not. The grip is very ergonomic. Most important, the trigger does not tell you when the hammer is about to drop which is key to giving incredible accuracy. VERY accurate in my hands!
- Inexpensive to buy and easy to find accessories.

Here is what I do not like about the G26:
- “Cocked and Unlocked” scares me. My G26 is unloaded when it comes out of the holster. I cannot keep my G26 loaded in a drawer like my HK P7.
- When I load 10 rounds in the mag, it is unreliable to home the mag. I have to pound the mag in and force the mag catch to home.
- When I load 10 rounds in the mag, it is sometimes unreliable to feed the first round.
- For the above reasons, I only load 9 rounds in the mag and carry 8+1. (Which is adequate capacity.)
- The G26 gives good reliability with 8 + 1 loading but it still jams about once every 200 rounds. This is within my limits of reliability for self defense. I am skeptical of Glock fans who claim firing a hundred thousand rounds without a jam. I have friends with Glocks who experience jams exceeding once in a hundred rounds.
- Ejecting a mag is not easy to do with one hand. Press with the thumb and your palm opposes mag release. One has to remove the RH grip and use the LH to press the mag release. This defeats fast reloading but I don’t need a spare magazine (I live in a low crime area).

Good luck!

Hello, Mr. Helser. I agree with your assessment concerning the need to be absolutely sure the fully loaded magazine is well-seat, but your G26 ought to feed easily from a full magazine. I'd contact Glock on that. I don't have untold thousands of rounds through my G26, but do have well over a thousand now with no malfunctions whatsoever. Mine feeds anything even off of a full magazine. Your gun should, too.

Good luck.

Best.

You can't go wrong with a Glock 26, I love mine! Reliable, accurate, light and easy to conceal any number of ways. That being said, I also love my Kahr K9, it is also a very good gun. I have no experience with the P9 but have heard quite a few negative ones. I am staying away from the polymer Kahr's.

Can't go wrong with a Glock 26 I know mine has been 100% reliable and more accurate in my opinion than many full size pistols.

It's the only Glock that I own. Good size and shape and 100% reliable so far. I am a 1911 fan so I haven't become comfortable carrying it with a round in the chamber yet but I have not seen where it would have been a problem as far as an AD.
Lot's of magazines in other pistols and rifles as well need a good whack to insure that they are fully seated, no problem. The only real issue that I have with my G26 is that the magazines are hard for me to load the last few rounds into without the tool.
If I were to get a mini Glock for primary carry I would try the one in 45ACP with a magazine grip extender and see how that worked out only because I'm not a fan of the 9MM Parabellum.

Does a G27 count?

the 26 and 27 are the same formats beside caliber.I've put more than 4k rounds through my G27.No failures,it was my first GLOCK and still my favorite to carry so far(I've got 3 in the collection so far).IWB, Don Hume in mid back.SAFE-SHOOTING!

18 months ago you could not get me to touch a glock. 12 months ago I bought a G27 b/c I needed something more discreet. I carry every day. That G27 gets carried 95% of the time.

I am still not a fan, and will probably never be a total convert, but I have to admit that the G26/27 is the best carry gun I have ever seen.

Just buy it, dont look back.

I like mine too. Never had a jam, surprisingly easy to shoot well for such a short barrel. Wish it had come with a smooth-faced trigger (like the 17 or 34) but I guess I could always swap it out. Thumbs up here.

I carry mine just about every hour I'm awake. I've owned it for just over a year, and put it on with my clothes in the morning and don't take it off till I go to bed at night. When a gun is small enough, you can do that.

Out of ... ummmmm ... at least a couple thousand rounds, it's never given me any grief.

It conceals easily, shoots straight, and goes 'bang' every time I pull the trigger.

What more could one want in a carry weapon?

I loved my G27, but I sold it. I regret it a little now, but I couldn't beat the price that was thrown at me. I definitely see another one in my future.

We got one for my mother. It was her first gun. The only problem she had with it was getting the slide racked and getting mags completely loaded when the springs were new. She is in her mid 60s and has arthritis. Even so, she finds the gun easy to shoot and she does a good job of hitting where she is aiming. I don't know that she has had any malfunctions other than forgetting to chamber a round. The gun shoots well and is very reliable.
